What about the street that links Selenica to Ylaruam? I'm currently running the X10 module (about the Sind war), and this has made me think a lot about the status of this caravan route, actually. Obviously, this is one of the most strategically important places in the continent. Presently I think that it is controlled by Darokinians, but one can of course establish some treaties between Darokin and Ylaruam anout this. Let's look at this from the viewpoint of various nations. Darokin: Apart from the southern ports, this is the best access to trade with Ylaruam (gosh, really), but also Rockhome (I think very little trade can be made through Darokin Trail, the small game trail/pass in the Rockhome mountains), Soderfjord and Vestland (to Rhoona, via Rockhome). Ylaruam: Also very important trade route. But, as people already pointed out, it can also function as a safe haven to whatever faction of Al-Kalimians that is currently in low favour (the militant, xenophobic Kin and the scolastic, cosmopolitan Preceptors). One of the major trade houses of Darokin, Al-Azrad, is of Ylaruamian origins, and this may create either tension or sympahty, depending on the political climate. Rockhome: This is an important trade route, as Darokin is one of Rockhome's major trade areas. The traditional good ties with Ylaruam should make this a fairly safe route. Karameikos: I think that Karameikos would be much more happy if the trade route remains in Darokinian hands, as it is a much more stable nation. This is an important trade route, as Specularum is a big city compared to Karameikan cities. Then again, should trouble brew north, Karameikos could always rely more on sea trade and Thyatian trade routes. Guarding the northern passes against invasions should be easy, as there's already a fortress. During "my" version of the X10 Nomad War, I think that Ylaruam (ruled by a Kin Kalif), will try to capture the passes and possibly Selenica. The existence of Preceptor immigrants might function as a casus belli. Depending of the actions of the PC embassadors, various nations will react to this. Alfheim will propably try to break the siege, as the xenophobic Ylaruamians aren't their favourite neigbours. The Rockhome dwarves might take over the passes to cut the supply lines of the Ylaruamians, but possibly not engage the Ylaruamians (so that their good relations wouldn't be permanently lost). All in all, I think that the Selenica-Ylaruam passes can be a centre for various diplomatic, military and mercantile adventures. > 2.. Who is the Master of Sind? ( I can't find my X6!!! ) Hosadus, is according to the scant hints given by X5 and X10, a zealous worshipper of Thanatos, who comes from the land of Hule (beyond the vast Sind Desert and the great western mountain ranges). The X5 module describes his ascension to power in Hule, and later attempts to annex Sind/Darokin. (There's been some discussion whether the events in X4 and X5, the first phases of the Great War, should be about the Master's invasion to Sind, not to the [Darokinian] republic, as the modules suggest.) In the module X10 Hosadus invades Darokin. This is part of his attempts to attain Immortality by using a great artefact, the Soul Gem of Thanatos - basicly Hosadus send powerfuls souls to Thanatos by sacrificing them to the Gem. If you check the MML archives in http://oracle.wizards.com/archives/mystara-l.html you can find some interesting discussions about Hosadus, early this Autumn I think. > 7.. What about the other islands of Thanegioth ( apart from the Island of Terror) ? As was already mentioned, there's no canon material about this. I'm currently writing a campaign scheme that includes short descriptions of the islands. I'll send it to the list in a few weeks I guess. (Depends on how bored I get with my work.) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Nov 2001 10:45:24 -0800 From: Chris Furneaux Subject: Re: The Different Orcs Ala GAZ 10 Thanks George. Most enlightening. Gotta love them species names, I wonder what their translations are :) I do have one question though, whats a northern-style orc? > Orcus Hyborianus: Northern-style orc. Their coloring > is from sickly white to > light gray. It also explains why orcs in the Alfheim gaz have been drawn with such big noses. I personally think it makes them seem too much like pig-men so I think I'll stick with my more tratitional idea of an orc. Maybe I'll substitute some for the more LotR style (I get to see the movie at midnight when it comes out... what a cool wife I have who got me tickets). --- George Hrabovsky wrote: > I have been following the recent discussion about > orc blood with some > interest. That is correct. They list those three as the main types. There is some variation for creating custom humanoid PCs of course, so you can have green orcs if you want them. > > > Are goblins still green then? I would have to look this up. > > > Was Thar an orc, and if so then isn't that most likely > him on the cover with the green skin sitting on the > throne. Wouldn't that be typical. No. Thar is a common orc according to the text inside. Gray-green, as George has pointed out, is the closest you get. I can't recall off hand if it was directly stated, but I inferred Thar to be Orcus Imperator Rex, due to his megalomania, which would make him copper brown. The cover of GAZ5 would seem to state that shadowelves are dark-skinned like the drow, but we know that to be false. > I personally have > always concidered orcs to be often greenskins, but > some differing kinds existing. > Well, it really doesn't matter. 2E AD&D made them green, GAZ10 chose other color patterns. BTW Shawn, if you update the vaults with these I have a suggestion, you could link http://dnd.starflung.com/atzrivoc.html which is Atzri Voca a Adri Varma NPC in the Adri Varma section along with the other stuff. ==================================================================== These spells have been devloped by the Sol-Klorians and are mostly used by Sol-Klorian wiccans ( mages ). 1st level Spells Light : This version creates a reddish light as tough coming from the glow of a burning oil pit. Magic Missile : ( Oil Sprouts ) This version of the spell creates small 3 inch darts of scalding hot boiling oil. 2cnd level Spells Locate Object : ( Locate Oil ) The Sol-Klorians have devlopped a version of this spell which can only be used to find oil but has double the duration of the normal spell. Mirror Image : ( Hazy Vision ) This version of the spell surrounds the caster whit magical gases and vapours and simulate the effect of extreme heat in the air around him. No detrimental effect is acheived from these factors of the spell. The spell will also create a couple of very blurry distorted images of the caster, and only the caster which acts as a normal Mirror Image spell. Web : ( Sticky Oil ) This version of the spell creates strand of black, thick rubbery strands of an oil like substance which acts as a normal web spell. 3rd level Spells Fireball : ( Fiery Oil ) This version of the spell create a ball of black oil which upon impact explodes in a mass of flaming oil. Lightning Bolt : ( Burning Gases ) This version of the spell creates a line of scalding hot gases which appears for an instant. All targets are hit simultaneously and the spell can hit many targets if they are all in a straight line. The spell is stopped by walls but not creatures. The spell cannot rebound off walls. Apart from that it functions as a normal Lightning Bolt spell. Water Breathing : ( Gas Breathing ) This version of the spell allows the caster to breath gases, oil vapours as it was normal air. Water Breathing : ( Smoke Breathing ) This version of the spell allows the caster to breath smoke, such as coming from a coal fire or any other source as it was normal air. Water Breathing : ( Oil Breathing ) This version of the spell allows the caster to breath liquid oil as tough it was normal air. Note that this spell does not offer protection for the caster's eyes, mouth, clothes, etc. Other precautions of spell should also be considered if the caster is to go exploring an oil well. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2001 01:27:23 -0500 From: David Knott Subject: Black shadow elves (was Green orcish blood?)
