As you will see from the replies, the answer to the first question is definitely no. The racial characteristics of gnomes were a major issue of contention in the Mystara3E group. Here are my personal answers, based on a combination of the available source material (D&D RC and PC 2) and the later rule sets (AD&D 2E and D&D 3E) that you may be using: > Which, if any, of the > following would apply? > > *As strong as Elves (-2 Str IMC) > *As strong as Halflings (-4 Str IMC) While I would differ on the exact penalties, gnomes should have approximately the same size and strength as halflings. > *Smarter/more inquisitive than Humans (a bonus to Int) Yes in 2E, no in 3E. > *Less wise (perhaps the flip side to their inquisitive nature) Again, yes in 2E, no in 3E. > *A Con similar to Humans or Dwarves/Halflings Dwarves/halflings. > *Affinity with technology/mechanical contraptions Yes. > *Affinity with illusions No. > *Magically resistant As Dwarf or Halfling. > *Lack of affinity with magic No -- gnome wokani definitely exist. > *As dextrous as Humans or Halflings/Elves As halflings. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Dec 2001 03:57:54 -0500 From: David Knott Subject: Re: holidays in the savage coast From: "Christopher M Cherrington" > > There is no cannon source for the Lawful Brotherhood in the Dawn of > the Empires set, so this could mean several things... > 1. The Lawful Brotherhood was originally outcast from Thyatis. > 2. The Lawful Brotherhood was too lawful to stay under Thyatian Imperialism. > 3. The Lawful Brotherhood was persecuted for some odd reason. > 4. The Lawful Brotherhood never existed as a religious movement, and was > only interested in making colonies for profit (What an idea for Asterius, > the patron of merchants and thieves). A fifth possibility: The Lawful Brotherhood was the missionary arm of the Lawful faction of the Church of Thyatis, mentioned in a couple of early gazetteers but not in Dawn of the Emperors. The Church of Thyatis was definitely the source of the Church of Karameikos and may have been the source of the Church of Darokin. Of these three churches, only the Church of Thyatis seems to have remained vital after 1000 AC -- the Church of Darokin seems to have its only major representative in Alfheim Town while the Church of Thyatis has fallen so far into obscurity that it does not even rate a mention in Dawn of the Emperors. Final note: The Lawful Brotherhood had two rival factions, one Neutral and one Chaotic. The three factions of the later Inheritors seem to derive from these three groups. None of this needs preclude any material about the LB Trading Co. mentioned in other messages, of course. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Dec 2001 15:38:13 +0100 From: Francesco Defferrari Subject: holidays, elves, savage baronies and more ! : - ) Well, those are my proposed festival for the savage baronies (not for = all the savage coast) I used for inspiration the following elements: (note that according to several canon sources (DotE, PWA etc) spring = equinox in mystara is 1/3 and not 21/3, and summer solstice should be = 1/6 and not 21/6...) Halaran was a friend of the Duke, and since he is a cleric, he would be the most trusted individual to protect such an operation (The Duke can't trust his cousin for such an operation). So I have always played the tough rules and laws in Threshold as precautions from meddling agents wishing to undermine or steal from the Duke. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Dec 2001 22:59:19 -0700 From: Angelo Bertolli Subject: list problems I'm not getting any of the list's email.
