I think this was purposefully left vague for the GM's to greater latitude to tailor Church to their campaign specific needs. IMC, I use a custom Immortal called Mithras, god of Light and Justice. He was popular for the Roman Empire by the soldiers (RW), and was also worshipped in India, Persia, and Greece. Many of the rites used in the religion, were later re-adopted by the Roman Catholic Church. Because of this, I do a reverse thing in modeling Mithras and hence Church of Karameikos, after a Christianity. This way, I can role-play many Dark Age's apocalyptic story lines. Thus things like Inquisitions, Witch-hunts, Exorcisms, etc. fit in very well. Also, as Thyatis is similar to Byzantium Empire and Byzantium Empire hosted the Eastern Orthodox church, and also because the church had a presence in Transylvania, Romania, and eastern Slavic regions, much of the lore, history, that dark ages and gothic fantasy is derived can be role-played here. Count Dracula for instance was a real person named Vlad Dracul, and he was a Knight of the Dragon, which opposed the Islamic Turks. Though he had to play both sides at certain points just to survive. The tales of his deeds are horrific, infamous, legendary. In Transylvania, there are many superstitions by gyspies and common folk. There's werewolves and nosferatu, just like in Traladara. The church possibly dimissed a lot of this as mumbo-jumbo pegan practices, but to the commonfolk, they were very much real, and in D&D (heh, heh) they are real. Thus, Mithras worked well IMC for this reason. The church was the light and justice that brought civilization to the dark world. But, though, at the same time, ignored the plight of the commoner because they were thought of as inferior (Traladarans vs. Thyatian attitude), and nothing more than children that needed to be guided and directed. There was also corruption within the Church itself (RW and GAZ1), which wanted to embark upon their enlightened or ignorant paths (RW and GAZ1). - Joaquin > -----Original Message----- > From: Mystara RPG Discussion [mailto:MYSTARA-L@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM]On > Behalf Of Max Rega > Sent: Saturday, April 27, 2002 2:48 AM > To: MYSTARA-L@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM > Subject: [MYSTARA] Atrouble of Church > > > Who are the Immortals of the Church of Thyatis, and > those of the Church of Karameikos? > > ===== > - Non ti far mai servo: > non far tregua coi vili: il santo Vero > mai non tradir: né proferir mai verbo, > che plauda al vizio, o la virtù derida - > > A.Manzoni > > ______________________________________________________________________ > Con Yahoo! vinci viaggi per i Mondiali FIFA 2002 > http://it.yahoo.com/mail_it/foot/?http://lasfida.yahoo.net/ > > ******************************************************************** > The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp > The Mystara Homepage: http://www.dnd.starflung.com/ > To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM > with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. > ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Apr 2002 12:07:35 -0700 From: macnerd Subject: Multiple Gods for one church (was RE: [MYSTARA] Atrouble of Church) Who do priests get their spells from? I was going to link several modules together and call it Rise of the Triad. I thought of using Atzanteotl, Hel, and another god. Atzanteotl would replace Iuz (or my Nithian Set concept) and represent order, darkness, and serpent personas. Hel would replace Lloth, and perhaps if I wanted to bring Drow/DarkElfs into the picture, she could fulfill that role. As for the elemental cults, I am wondering if I should use Loki/Bozgodan, but then I remembered that there was this evil-god like creature for the Silver Princess (vers 2) module that took place in Haven. This could be a tie-in for that module, where an evil god is imprisioned in the temple. Lastly, maybe Atzanteotl could have an alternative Set persona, like Loki as an alternative Bozgodan persona for the Desert Nomads. Then I can link Azanteotl/Set into the past of the Nithian Empire, and the PCs can discover ancient artifacts of a very different culture and nature, but yet no explanation. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Apr 2002 12:27:02 -0700 From: macnerd Subject: Highforge Gnomes IMC I think the gnomes only reveal to the world that they live in this town/city of Highforge, which they closely guard and dispose of any trespassers. IMC, the reason for this is that their city is linked to many cities underground is a huge underground kingdom. This is a closely guarded secret. There is a secret unknown enemy, which caused the fall of their civilization in the Soderfjords Jarldom region. Additionally, there is a annual trading with one of the gnomish sky cities. After this event, they go on the great Annual Gnomish Caravan where they trade with locals in Karameikos. Many merchants from around the globe travel to Karameikos to trade with the gnomes. During this caravan, the gnomes hold a contest to see who can make the most wondrous invention. This is judges are the elders of Highforge, and spectators are welcomed, though their safety is not guaranteed if something goes awry. The gnomes know of the dwarvish communities, humanoid communities, and also the Shadow Elf communities, and they have other reclusive places where they live, such as the one way up north in EarthShaker module. Perhaps some Highforge gnomes can hire the PCs to go up North to spy and get schematics of the device... :-) - Joaquin ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Apr 2002 20:31:22 +0000 From: Gilles Leblanc Subject: Re: ESDs Thanks, I didnt know all of them were available. _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Apr 2002 21:37:23 +0000 From: Agathokles Subject: Re: Multiple Gods for one church (was RE: [MYSTARA]Atrouble ofChurch) macnerd wrote: > > Who do priests get their spells from? If not, how complex would it be to work something out to speed > up the computations? Giampaolo Agosta The MyMiCS system is pretty easy to use. It is based on Warmachine so if you have any experience with that you should be able to churn out army stats pretty quickly. The good thing about MyMiCS is that it takes into account a lot of factors that Warmachine doesn't - like artillery, heavy infantry etc etc etc. I did an advanced Seamachine version with James Ruhland as well. I'll have to see if I can dig it up and submit it to the Master of the Vaults for inclusion on his site! The thing I didn't like about the original Seamachine was all the annoying calculating of men, HD, HP, recovery of men at sea and all that stuff that made it so unweildy. Our version did away with that by replacing all the stats with a naval rating that took into account the HD of the sailors, marines, hull points of the ships etc in one figure. Makes it a lot more fun to use.
