I am planning on it. Better get moving, only a few days left. I am really hoping that whichever one wins is a coherent campaign world. Not a hodge-podge like FR(Mystara suffers from this too). If they redid Mystara I'd like to see them keep the general theme and style, but redo the maps... spread things out a bit more, move stuff around, rationalize the geography, make room for new stuff (including "wilderness"). Also edit out some of the sillier ideas and exercise a bit of editorial quality control. The basic premise of the competition is a reaction to third parties enforcing their copyrights, so the new one will be more like kingdom of kalamar I would suggest in that it will be all-inclusive and with slightly different rules to ensure the buying of still more books. They have already ruled out a lot of straight D&D worlds as well as some of the really hokey detailed online worlds as they want something previously unreleased. WIth all the requirements built into what they are looking for I should think it will be crap, actually. I think that the vast majority of gamers will continue to use their own stuff, old stuff and the best of everything published. With DIABLO already added as a 3e world it seems a bit pointless to me. I predict it will be either a manga type world ripped off from eg Slayers and LODOSS or a lame-ass modern world to try and rip off the Palladium market share, which would also be a huge blunder. Why they don't just reissue a sensible version of Gamma World and Alternity is beyond me. The new controllers of Wizards of the Coast will simply supervise the demolition of the preexisting worlds, including FR, and release a new pap version to go with the re-edited version 1.1 of 3e due out in 2003 to 2005. All sound impossible? It's all straight from online interviews with people involved together with interviews from the Hasbroids. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 17 Jun 2002 to 18 Jun 2002 (#2002-157) ****************************************************************
