I've been working (in the back of my mind) on creating Burrowers for 3E using the rules in ELH and Deities and Demigods, but hadn't gotten anywhere offhand. Basically, I was figuring on having "Burrower" be a template of some sort, which is then applied to creatures and characters. << Keep in mind, I still haven't even looked at the ELH, but I've got some thought on how it might possible be used in Mystara. I'm wondering if you could use the Burrowers as the springboard for introducing epic levels to Mystara. Say that the SoP is becoming weaker and weaker, and the Burrowers start regaining some of their powers - not enough to move around, but enough to start having an effect on their environment. The Burrowers would start gathering villians to them. Perhaps the Burrowers themselves could be the source of "epic level" powers. The PCs would have to find another source of power in order to be able to counter their new enemies. Perhaps the immortals have power sources - powerful artifacts that link directly with the immortal's home planes, and they only allow mortals access to those powers in times of great need. Just some epic level thoughts. By the way has anyone else picked this up? Is it worth it? Can the material be used in Mystara? -John ===== Rule #85. I will not use any plan in which the final step is horribly complicated, e.g. "Align the 12 Stones of Power on the sacred altar then activate the medallion at the moment of total eclipse." Instead it will be more along the lines of "Push the button." from "A Guide to Becoming an Evil Overlord" by Peter Anspach __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! There is certainly some high-powered movement going on in the Almanacs at present- with some Burrower agents at work (among others)- notably Wastoure. > Just some epic level thoughts. It doesn't seem all that "uber" powerful to me- not unless you manage to get PCs well into the real high levels- and considering even a level-to-level conversion puts PCs into 36th level at most (and current 3E mentality- which I largely agree with- puts the level conversion lower- 36th to 25th or 26th or thereabouts IIRC). Epic level spells can certainly explain the islands of Floating Ar (which survived the Week of No Magic- essentially a worldwide Anti-magic Field), as well as other things. As for my earlier post on thoughts about the power levels of Burrowers (I was torn with explaining why they don't seem so powerful, or how to make them powerful enough or somesuch) I've been thinking about it a bit, and will be posting a (lengthy?) discussion on the idea either today or tomorrow. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 28 Aug 2002 to 29 Aug 2002 (#2002-225) ****************************************************************
