Most of the setting info seems to be covered in the module trilogy, although it has been expanded upon and includes extra rules for ships and firearms. Definately worth picking up. Hell in Freeport is more of a separate thing which includes the City of Freetown, a paralell city to Freeport located in Hell. (Similar to the Isle of Dawn vs the Isle of Night...) Older official sources claim its on Brun. More recent sources claim its on Skothar. Bruce Heard sided with the latter, althouth as Giulio(?) pointed out, it Thonia and Blackmoor should be switched on the precataclysmic map from the HW boxed set. I have made a couple of maps myself which support this theory. They are simple hand drawn ones (I am no cartographer), but I will put them on a website tomorrow if you guys are interested. 2) The Peoples of Blackmoor and Mystara today: What people seem to forget when discussing this is that the Blackmoor-Thonian civilsation existed around 6000 years ago. This is a very long time. Also, Blackmoor and its nearby cultures experienced the meteoric rise in technology due to contact with the FSS Beagle. The subsequent disaster, The Great Rain of Fire, would furthermore have wiped out most life on Skothar as much as killing off many tribes on the other continents, especially Brun. However, this is a fantasy setting and I, like you guys like the fact that there should be some connection between the peoples of Blackmoor and modern day Mystarans. Andrews theories about the Peshwans seem to me to be flawless to the extent that this immediately became canon IMC when I read it. I propose a similar developement with some of the northern Skandaharian tribes who were driven over to Brun and eventually became the Antalians. The Skandaharians remaining close to Blackmoor enjoyed their own rise in technology due to trade with the former (and according to Mystaros's Blackmoor timeline were the first to land on the Moon), but should also have been wiped out along with the Blackmoor-Thonians. What other peoples were there? The Afridhi were probably wiped out even before the Blackmoor's began their rise in technology. I have toyed around with an idea that Alphatia was actually settled by Mages from the Blackmoor era, perhaps from Tenn, but I know too litle about these guys to know if it fits. Thoughts, ideas? I heartily recommend it to anyone wanting to run a science fantasy game with the D&D3E rules. Also, it struck me that these rules are ideal for fleshing out a campaign with the Galactic Federation, or Blackmoor at its higher tech levels. The Dragonstar setting itself could also easily be incorporated into Mystaras "Milky Way" as the Draconic Empire only takes up part of the galaxy. Mystara AND the Galactic Federation could easily exist within the same galaxy without either of them having had much contact up to now... Thoughts? Having nothing else to do, I decided to sit down and create a Blackmoor website, collecting some of the ideas from the ongoing Blackmoor discussions. I have uploaded a few files aswell as the most useful links. Check it out! Im definately picking up this product when it hits the shelves. However, I dont expect too much from the product itself. On the other hand, I dont own any of the classic Blackmoor products and this one will probably be useful as a reference tool. Still, I think we should keep up the work connecting Blackmoor with Mystara as I doubt Zeitgeist games will help us there. These maps are: 1) very useful: at least I now have a better idea of where Blackmoor and Thonia were; 2) better than anything a could draw myself ;) -- Giampaolo Agosta http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Sep 2002 11:25:10 -0400 From: Geoff Gander Subject: Re: Read this! > > Im definately picking up this product when it hits the > shelves. I think I'll use it mainly for extra campaign flavour/adventure ideas, since I'm plotting to put my players through the DA series. You never know what the book will contain, though. Great site, BTW! Personally it I thought it might be interesting to see more internal conflict between the dawarven clans played out with the moriswerg but this could easily be inserted if one so desired. This is mainly because I felt that the immortals dealing with Loki to stop his worship was a bit of a cop out. That is the one bit that could use a bit more development. Denwarf did not appear very fleshed out but that makes it easier to insert any details that you desire later. I liked it a lot and it strikes a good balance.
