Certain sects of dwarves were formed around this, making prophesies about the next "Tears of the Moon" and embarking on wuests to find "the living silver". One PC dwarf has a chain mail made of mithrail. Coincidentally, I used the same +3 modifier as was proposed on the list, and in addition made the mithrail chain mesh inherently stronger (starting value AC3, not AC5). So, the mithrail chain mail is equal to plate mail +3. In addition I decided that the chain mesh would be immune to special effects like slicing, very much like Frodo's mithril shirt was immune to the knives of the nazgul. mithrail is also more receptive to additive enchantments due to its magical nature. Yes, this is extremely powerful, but then again only clerics of those dwarf sects are able to craft mithrail armour. And it will take years (the PC got the armour as a reward of several quests), as the most critical tasks can only be performed during full moon. For example, the links of mithrail shirt are NEVER cut. They are joined together in moonlight rituals, when moonrays transmute the metal for a moment, allowing the cleric to join the links together, without no seams. Weapons and other "simpler" items can be made by experienced mithrailsmiths, although they will still need clerical aid for more powerful items. I created a powerful battleaxe for my campaign, taking literally the term "living silver". The axe of Naoh is a battleaxe +3 with a couple of lower enchantments added. It's novel feature is that the mithrail will "act" with the wielder of the axe, following his/her movements. In practice this means that the axe changes its density during the strike: the mass will concentrate on the shaft during the backswing, and on the edge during the stike. In effect this eliminates the initiative penalty for 2-handed weapons.
