Something like this is likely to have been discussed earlier, but I only find half-done lists with either spheres or powers or half of the immortals missing. Is there such a thing as an 'official' ruling anywhere on the web (or in the mailing list digests - if so could you provide the exact location?). Thank you Knud ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2002 17:07:29 -0500 From: Giampaolo Agosta Subject: Re: spheres for spec priests Knud Gentz wrote: > > Is there such a thing as an 'official' ruling anywhere > on the web (or in the mailing list digests - if so could you provide the > exact location?). There's nothing official, and since there is a large number of immortals, only few have been thoroughly detailed. You've probably seen the list of Immortals at the Vaults (http://dnd.starflung.com/immortal.html) which is the most complete source of info on the Mystaran Immortals. It includes the work of the Immortal Project, which detailed (at a very slow pace) a dozen of Immortals. This other document, while less detailed, provides conversions from AD&D gods' spheres and powers to Mystaran Immortals http://dnd.starflung.com/dei_imm.html If you have the Priest Spell Compendium or the Core Rules, it should solve some of your problems. As a side note, I'd say that the powers of most specialist priests in Mystara would not only depend on their Immortal, but also on their nation (just think what differences there would be between a Narvaezan specialty priest of Ixion and his goblinoid, Enduk, or Ethengaran colleagues). BTW, should you detail the specialty priests of any of the Mystaran Immortals, would you post them here or on the MNS? -- Giampaolo Agosta agathokles@libero.it agosta@elet.polimi.it http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2002 11:22:00 -0800 From: Larry Subject: Re: spheres for spec priests Are you talking about the CR CD rom? If so you should know it dosent have anything in it regarding SP's of gods of any kind. Your best bet is to use the "Compleate Priests Handbook" if you can find it. Therer are detailed rules/guidlines for using/creating SP's. ===== "Happy Hunting!" To "test" this theory, one would have to apply real world physics. I doubt=20 thta a nuclear explosion would be enough to alter the axis of earth. To do=20 thta you would need a kinetic strike such as that seen from an=20 asteroid/meteorite. It might be possible for a massive nuclear blast to alte= r=20 the earth's magnetic field. I am not sure of the magnitude. However, Mystara is hollow and therefore is not identical to earth. Powers=20 that provide the atmosphere and gravity (skyshield) could be explained as=20 being altered or disrupted to shift the axis. Conversely, you have Mystara=20 being struck by an asteroid during Wrath. Damage was failry limited for such= =20 a direct hit. Exact size is vague, but the text does suggets the PCs being=20 sent to explore the approaching asteroid, perhaps finding and fighting=20 enemies there. It might have mentioned a settlement there...i am unsure.=20 Anyway...the end result being the asteroid hits no matter the PCs actions. But I am getting off topic. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2002 14:49:19 -0500 From: SteelAngel Subject: Re: About the planetshift of Mystara On Thu, 24 Jan 2002, Alex Benson wrote: > To "test" this theory, one would have to apply real world physics. I doubt I would suggest we not think too much about this subject. A sufficiently powerful event to cause an axial shift of a planet would alter the actual orbit of the planet also, as well as blowing a huge chunk out of the surface :) I always explained the GRoF and axial shift to be the result of massive multiple-plane-spanning powers, and left it at that. Yes, but you can download and install the extensions with the Priest Spell Compendium spells (which were cited in the article I put the link to), and (the CR2) includes the CPH anyway. -- Giampaolo Agosta agathokles@libero.it agosta@elet.polimi.it http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2002 19:09:34 -0800 From: The Stalker Subject: Re: spheres for spec priests On Thu, 24 Jan 2002 13:51:51 +0100, Knud Gentz wrote: (snip) > We're playing AD&D on Mystara and I'm looking for a list of powers for > the specialty priests of mystaran immortals (spheres of spells to cast, > other powers and restrictions). > I pondered this question years ago when we played 2e on Mystara... I kept meaning to write up a complete list, but never got around to doing it because there were just too many bloody Immortals... By the time Player's Option: Skills & Powers came out I just gave up, both because of all the Immortals, but also for other reasons. First of all, if there were rules that allowed players to customize their clerics characters (as there are in Skills & Powers, later revised in Spells & Magic), then why should I do all the work for all the priesthoods? Second, I thought it was entirely possible for the same Immortal to grant his various priests access to different spheres. After all, Ixion is not worshipped for the same aspects in Sind as he is in Darokin or Ethengar (though they should all have major access to the Sun sphere), some might focus on his fight against undeath and darkness, while others might focus more on his scholarly aspects... And last there was one thing that more than any other kept me from doing it myself, namely the unsatisfying prospect of designing all those priesthoods myself (as the DM) only to have the players be disappointed over them and choosing always the same Immortal for whatever spells they preferred. I thought better of letting the players design their clerics however they wanted, then use my DM status to veto their choices if I didn't agree with them. That way, their choice of Immortal would be based solely on a role- playing aspect (what philosophies and ideals that Immortal represented and sought to further) rather than a min/maxing basis (player choosing the Immortal giving him the best combination of spells/granted abilities). I haven't regretted that choice... Then again, it did require use of the player option books! - The Stalker ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 23 Jan 2002 to 24 Jan 2002 (#2002-25) ***************************************************************
