If and when they interact with human socieities, they can gain a lot of power. Just take for instance the renegade red dragon that controls orc tribes that priate ships in the savage coast. Most dragons stick to their own affairs and own societies, much like vampires and werewolves have their own societies in White Wolf products. In the DragonLord series, dragons did have a big role. First, a large number of rogue dragons (greens and reds) were raiding in Ethengar, HighLands (now Glantri), Wendar, and Heldann Freeholds. When the DragonLord, using armor created during the Blackmoor era by Blackmoor magic and stored in someplace like DragonsWatch, came into full realization, he defeated the dragons, and thus ended the war. Later, most nations fear another invasion of dragons, and the Highlands (pre-Glantri), and many nations deal with the Highlands to gain favor of the DragonLord in hopes that dragons won't threaten their land. At the point of my reading, the dragons invaded Alphatia, as Alphatia is expanding too far in the Norwold area, which is encroaching on the dragons' land. There was something also about the collar of the dragons, another ancient artifact created by Blackmoor wizards... The dragons were especially good and sinking galleys and supply ships ("flame on") and also using powerful magic vs. Alphatian air magic to conquer a foritified city in Norwold. This prompts Thyatis to take advantage of the situation and pondor openly about gathering allies for an incursions into Alphatia. The king of Braejr (did I spell it right?), who rules over the flaems now, wants to gather allies and join Thyatis in such an invasion, and send over colonists into Alphatia to displaced local power there in Isle of Dawn. Thus a war on a global scale and be started by the dragons warring Alphatia. Also, almost forgot, digressing a bit, the unity of the flaems was caused by the dragons. They were terrorizing the Highlands (pre-Glantri nation). At that time, power was divided between various dukes, and the archduke and the fire wizards had little powerful, except during war time, where the archduke can gather forces in defense of the land, especially if the dukes cannot get their act together. That happened, and the Archduke became the King at the expense of the divided power of all of the Dukes. All this caused by dragons... Besides dragons, the book details a lot about dragon society, culture, customs, and draconic law, as well as soveirgnty. They detail and undergound gnomish city, insides into flaemish law, customs, society, etc. and goes into religious practices of Kagyar and Terra, covers dwarven society, politics, court intrigue, ancient Blackmoor fortification, Sylvan Realm (other land of the elves), Tree of Life, a voyage to BlackMoutain and back, Yak spirits, Ethengar culture/society/customs, and more. It also mentions that there is NO SUCH THING AS A HALF-ELF!!! :-) That's in the first book!!!! Lastly, about dragons, colors are NOT necessarily evil, as in Monster Manual. There are renegade dragons, which are considered mad, and manytimes evil. The colors tend towards chaotic in behavior, where as the metallics tends towards order or lawful in behavior. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The Coming D20 Blackmoor will probably not include references to Mystara, but as it will mostly be an expansion upon Blackmoor stuff already included in Mystara material, it should be usable within Mystara with no or small modifications. > These days, I am going through the DragonLord > series, > which relates to a lot of stories about the ancient > war between the DragonLord and the dragons before > the > Great Rain of Fire. DragonLord possessed armor > created by Blackmoor magic. >> From the timeline on my website: 3989 BC “DA2, DA3 & DA4” 3480-3420BC First Beastman Crusade. Dragons learn the dangers of Blackmoor guns. (Mystaros). Personal Note: This is probably the time of the first Dragonlord. The armor crafted with Blackmoor magic is probably a Blackmoor Battlesuit, especially enhanced to fight powerful dragons. References to the DragonLord will most likely not be included in the D20 Blackmoor... (although it'd be cool if they did include that!) :) Håvard ______________________________________________________ Se den nye Yahoo! We are trying to keep things as ambiguous as possible in many cases to allow for easy use of the world in someone's campaign. As for Greyhawk and the rest being to the south, etc... You will be able to position the world in the same way if you choose. At this time, we are not totally planning to define the area beyond the current map. So what's beyond???? A Prime Material Plane and its Outer Planes (plus the common planes of Ethereal and Elemental) is known as one Multiverse. Thus, there are several Multiverses, all sharing the Ethereal, Elemental and Energy Planes. There is only a way to pass from one Multiverse to another: through the Prime Planes, or, more exactly, entering the Ethereal from a Prime Plane. Thence, one has to travel far until it reaches the Deep Ethereal. Deep Ethereals are the four-dimensional areas where the boundaries between the Prime Planes are not present, so one can pass through it and reach another Prime Plane. The problem is that only True Gods or immensely powerful Immortals or Athanatoi are able to know exactly where to go to reach the desired Plane; mortals and immortals alike risk to lose their way in the trip through the Deep Ethereal, or to die due to the dangers present there. Only the True Gods, however, know that there are several Prime Planes, all other creatures believe that there is only one Prime Plane and that the others are Demiplanes. This feeling is enhanced by the presence of gates, in the Ethereal, that sometimes allow any creature to pass from one Prime to the other. Most of these gates are temporary. Lastly, there ARE also Pocket Dimensions (or Demiplanes), exactly like Prime Planes but without any Outer Plane. The only way to enter and exit a Pocket Dimension (or Demiplane) is through the Ethereal's Gates - there is no way to reach them from the Deep Ethereal. Most of these Pocket Planes/Demiplanes are known by powerful planars and godlike beings, further enhancing the confusion and preventing all of them from knowing the real situation of the Cosmos. ______________________________________________________________________ Mio Yahoo!: personalizza Yahoo! come piace a te http://it.yahoo.com/mail_it/foot/?http://it.my.yahoo.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Oct 2002 16:43:12 +0200 From: =?iso-8859-1?q?la=20Volpe?= Subject: AComplete Guide to the Cosmos - A Summary of Multiverses We have long discussed the Nature of the Normal Tetraspace and described the Prime Planes, the Multiverses and the Outer Planes and their peculiar features. Here is a Summary of some of the Multiverses; their description is presented in the next articles. (Name of Multiverse) Prime Plane: indicates RPG or litterary campaign worlds appropriated as planets for the Prime Plane of this Multiverse. Immortal Structure: details briefly the structure of the godlike hierarchy. "Free Godhood" is the standard AD&D type of godhood, with mortals able to become gods, gods slain and so on. "Spheres of Power" means that there is an Immortal Hierarchy of some sort, similar to that of the D&D Mystara campaign, or some other very hierarchical and rigid good vs evil or chaos vs law. "No Gods known" is a situation like Ravenloft or Dark Sun where there are no recognized gods or pantheons, because gods are too distant or simply not present. "Forbidden Ascension" means that there is no way to ascend to godhoodin that Mulvtiverse, as godlike beings forbid and prevents that situation from happening. Outer Planes: gives a small description of the Outer Planes of this Multiverse. Connected Primes: these Prime Planes may be reached through gates in the Ethereal from the mentioned Multiverse. Level of Outer Being Influence: It is what it seems, just a description of how much the Outer Beings are able to influence the Multiverse through their vile scheming and telepathic abilities.
