You can travel at 6km per hour with = 30 kg but not without being serisously fatigued. No running for more = than a few minutes too. Than again, I guess my strength and constitution = scores are not more than 11... Do note that your speed in the game is drastically cut while "lightly" = encumbered, depending on terrain (=BD speed in most, 2/3 on a = trail/road). That's 12 miles a day in clear terrain. > Traveling with 60 kg would be like carrying someone on your back with = you. That is certainly doable, but I wouldn't go adventuring like that. = Armored knights in the middle ages were probably had these kinds of = weights around, but they were on horseback. And this one is even slower (about 1/3 of original speed). Indeed most = characters I've known get a horse (or other mount), if they're = travelling with that kind of weight, and I certainly would never attempt = it. ;) Jacob Skytte scythe@wanadoo.dk ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Oct 2002 22:50:19 +0800 From: "Francisco V. And I am doing so again in a grand new format! Take a look! www.geocities.com/enchanter_from_glantri/arcanamystara/arcana.htm The site itself is not yet finished (not yet begun, to be more exact). But what is done so far cannot be missed! Feedback welcome! PS: You are doing a great work with Mystaran constellations, but there's a little detail that I don't like very much: stars in my opinion should have new, original names (always preserving the arabian-ylari taste, of course). I.e. Eltanin, Altair, Gienah are real stars (really, there are _two_ stars named Gienah: G. Cygni and G. Corvi) while Rasalgol is too easily recognizable as Algol "The Demon Star" and so I find these names not very suitable for a fantasy world (after all the planets are called Tarastia, Khoronus, Thanatos and so on, not Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, etc. right?) ;-) Cheers > Kit Navarro Matteo Barnabè ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Oct 2002 14:46:14 -0700 From: Joe Kelly Subject: Reference book for NPC's I just picked up a reference book called, 1,000 faces of Villains and = Scoundrels.=20 It's not too bad, in reality there are only 250 persons but they are = sorted by class. History and Personality is okay, but IMHO the wanderers = website is better for reference as it is free, there are over 1800 entries = and all are sorted by race, or class then by level. Hope this helps. Odin Thor Hel and Loki all come from RW norse gods with the same names, Ixion-Helious is roman-greek. The original designers chose the names for immortals (and planets) by looking for not-so-famous deities (except in the case of the Norse pantheon which was taken as is). In either cases they took dieties and changed thier names but kept the personna: Proteius=Poseidon/Neptune, or used nicknames such as "the reaper" or "old man of the sea" which are also used in RW. TSR designers also blatantly used real world places names for Mystara. Sayir Ulan is a real place (I think in India) and I saw a few others used in Ylaruam. With all that said, I would have also liked to see more fantasy names with a real world feel for Mystara (and not vice versa). But if the guys in TSR did it, surely we can too.
