I downloaded them from elsewhere, and I got the brilliant (if I may say so) idea that, if the pictures are placed in the right context and lablled as such, then they would be appropriate for the Mystara setting. > I think that a simple star map of the Mystaran sky could be useful! I am working on one (actually three, to reflect the history and development of astronomical/astrological knowledge in Mystara). I will publish it in an update. I am also planning variant system for the M-Orient and maybe for the elves, but that will tkae a bit more time. > PS: You are doing a great work with Mystaran constellations, but there's a > little detail that I don't like very much: stars in my opinion should have > new, original names (always preserving the arabian-ylari taste, of course). > I.e. But the names of the stars are a bit more occult and arcane, moreso the Arabic/Ylari names, so I thought I would keep the RW names to most of them. (In my experience, if RW people know a star, they know it more by their "scientific"/Latin names, rather than common names.) I would disagree that "Rasalgol is too easily recognizable as Algol." I don't think that RW people commonly know the name of Algol, and more so its astronomical features and astrological significance. Indeed, most of these names say nothing to all but the astronomers ;) And Algol is more likely to be recognised as a programming language than as a star. -- Giampaolo Agosta http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Oct 2002 18:45:58 +0200 From: =?iso-8859-1?q?la=20Volpe?= Subject: Re: Arcana Mystara: Exploring the Mystaraverse A great work. Considering that the Nightmare Project page is turning into a "cosmological/dimensional/multiversal" page, I would like to include your work under the page's index - not as a link, I mean (aaah!! darn Fenswick language! couldn't we all speak Caurenzan?), but as a part of the Project itself. I'll simply link your pages to the Index. Got me? Agreed? Any problems with that? > > I agree that we should Mystara-ize the names of the > M-planets, since they > are common knowledge. If we assume that ylarian is arab, then it's not surprising that some names may be the same. It's like saying "hey, but Scaevola means left handed in latin, use another name for saying left handed in thyatian". It's not forbidden to change, but it's cool also to have some recognizable elements, I think. And, by the way, Matteo is an astronomer, so he can find all real world references, but we others probably don't know of most of them... 8-) Iulius Sergius Scaevola Captain of the XXth Cohort Port Lucinius, Thyatis ______________________________________________________________________ Mio Yahoo!: personalizza Yahoo! come piace a te http://it.yahoo.com/mail_it/foot/?http://it.my.yahoo.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Oct 2002 23:55:17 +0100 From: jason o'brien Subject: Emerond Help Hi guys, I was wondering if anybody out there can help me with a few questions on emerond. I have read the 1018 almanac entry and find I need more information on some areas. 1. The Cave of Magic 2. The Lake of Time 3. The Field of Dreams 4. The Forbidden City (pyrris) 5. The Desolate Hills. A Player got hold of the Emerond section of the almanac and has been asking me about these locations, he wants his character to explore them. any information would be a great help. My own background is more of astrology, hence the heavy emphasis on the mystical and mythological feel. According to the Poor Wizard's Almanacs, the most popular Immortals in Darokin are Asterius, Ixion, Khoronus, Koryis, Odin, the Twelve Watchers, Valerias, and Zirchev. It seems likely that many other Immortals have at least minor followings in Darokin. If any Mystaran nation believes in "freedom of religion", Darokin would be the most likely candidate. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 18 Oct 2002 to 19 Oct 2002 (#2002-271) ****************************************************************
