I haven't read it myself, but our Hârn-GM said that it has a lot of reliable figures about basic mediaval economics. It might be done on the basis of earlier medieval times, but it should still be useful. There might also be some useful info in www.vikingsword.com, a historical archive on European medieval swords. I have written a complex and probably badly phrased Guide to the Cosmos that deals mostly with planar cosmology, origin of universes etc. Currently all this stuff lies at the "Dark Portal" webpage, that is really poor on the graphics front. I have a lot of stuff there, even Andrew's burrower and Nightmare dimension stuff plus Geoff's monsters and the Big Book of Unspeakable Outer Lore. What if we (Kit, Giulio, Haavard & Marco) tried to work out something together, especially since 1) a common webpage would be better than 3 or 4 sites 2) agree upon one single cosmology/mystaran universe is better than having 3 cosmologies and 3 mystaraspaces 3) I am a (insert bad word) for graphics Let me know what you think - privately or here on the list. After all, I'd like to know what other Mystarans think of my idea. One thing I'd like to write the arcana i.e. the legends and myths, the occult knowledge (true or not) of how the Mystarans understand the stuff. Having all these inaccurate, fanciful, mystical, obscure, inconsistent versions of the truth will give room for many, many, many ideas. > What if we (Kit, Giulio, Haavard & Marco) tried to > work out something together, especially since > > 1) a common webpage would be better than 3 or 4 sites > 2) agree upon one single cosmology/mystaran universe > is better than having 3 cosmologies and > 3 mystaraspaces > 3) I am a (insert bad word) for graphics > Kit Navarro Glantrian Mythographer, False Mystic, Speculator, Purveyor of Fantasy, and Rumormonger ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Oct 2002 10:05:33 -0700 From: John Calvin Subject: Mystaran Planetology >> That being said, I was thinking of writing up one about Mystaran Planetology. Perhaps we could work together and share ideas. I have some rough ideas of the planet Ordana (a violent, erratic world of shapeshifters and wild magic, and possibly the homeworld of the Belcadizan elves), Protius (which could be any water world, possibly an ancient planet inhabited by giant sentient dolphin/whale-like creatures, a race possibly related to the mortal race of Protius himself!), and Thanatos (a dark world where the dead reign, living creatures are cows to feed off of or disguise themselves as pseudo-undead). Of course, these ideas can be reassigned to any of the other planets or the planetoids or even the moons! << I would also be interested in this. Currently I'm working on the idea that M-Venus is actually the birth-place of the carnifex, and that M-Mars is home to an ancient (and dying) race of aranea. -John ===== Rule #85. I will not use any plan in which the final step is horribly complicated, e.g. "Align the 12 Stones of Power on the sacred altar then activate the medallion at the moment of total eclipse." Instead it will be more along the lines of "Push the button." from "A Guide to Becoming an Evil Overlord" by Peter Anspach __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Y! I suggest two (mutually excluding) choices: 1) we keep the distance of 92 millions miles between Mystara and the Sun; this implies that Ixion is more massive than our Sun (about +15%). I don't like this choice because it adds useless complications: In simple terms, Ixion would be hotter, larger and brighter than our Sun; it would be more greenish, too. 2) we suppose Ixion = RW Sun. In this way Mystara is about 87.9 million miles from the star. Knowing Ixion mass (and the semimajor axis of planets presented in your website), I could calculate (if you are interested) the orbital periods of the several planets. I think you should refer to existing items, like the efreeti bottle, for example. It would probably be less powerful, but not that much. Basically, there would just be some mystic force linked to the jar that makes it a magical container for a certain type of monster--usually an incorporeal or gaseous one. I wouldn't know what kind of spell you could use, possibly "imprisonment" (an high level AD&D wizard spell) or something like that. The first is an anime type magical paper. Throw it at your target and it casts a "summon undead - ghost" when it strikes. For some reason paper in anime cast the ballistic properties of a well balanced throwing knife. But then again, lots of things in anime defy physics. Secondly, I've recently started reading the "Sword of Truth" series. (let's not get into the sado-masochistic bent of this series please) but there was an item called a "Night Stone" that, when removed from its holding bag summoned the shades of the dead. And just kept on summoning them. So, remove stone/crystal/skull/bone from bag and throw into ranks of the enemy. Alternatively put a time-lapse on the summoning effect tied to the enchanted item. You could smuggle them into the stronghold of the enemy, give them as gifts or talismans. Hijinks ensue.
