The Night Stone's summoning ability only works when removed from it's container. It could be a regular leather pouch or just wrapped in linens. My best description for how the summoning works would be to say that it makes the membrane separating the mortal world from the realm of the spirits of the dead a lot thinner within a certain area of effect and then calls to the shades. The novels seem to indicate that there are both malevolent and benevolent spirits in the realm of the dead so it seems as though the night stone only calls to the malevolent ones which want to consume life much as the ancients believed. The Night Stone in the first novel was in the hands of what I can only describe as a non-malevolent kind of necromancer. The stone gives off light when it is in darkness. Apparently wizards can also see through the stone if they know someone who carries it. However wizards in possession of the stone can also trap the spirit of any other wizard who is trying to see through it. I don't know who made them in the setting of the novel but it seems that they were made at least one or two generations prior to the start of the story. And that's all I can recall and I'd be happy to hear if anyone knows more. I started reading this series when 1) I considered beginning a new 3eMystara campaign and 2) I saw how many books were in this series. "jason o'brien" wrote: > Interesting any info on this stone? Make him travel to some wizard freind or better yet, to Morphail Gorevits Woszlani. He must have heard of him... Good role playing might convince Morphail to ally with your player. This cannot be easy. My Morphail is always seeking alliences with a "better" immortal than Alphaks. In events I wrote for the 1018 almanac, he failed in forming an aliance with Nyx's followers in Denagoth. Alphaks will be furious if Morphail will help a follower of Nyx, and an Alphatian no less. A few opions to consider- 1. Morphail gives your player a scroll with Binding spell (will work OK to capture ghosts IMO. This spell or anything you can think of can be presented as secret Glantrian/Boldavian/Taraldaran magic that your player knows nothing about). 2. Morphail (or another powerful necromancer) allies with your player and assists him with magic. 3. Your player fights and (hopefuly for him) defeats Morphail (or another necromancer) and has acess to lots of new spellbooks and scrolls (all of them usable by an OD&D thief IIRC). This will give him an edge in fighting the davanians and changing the land. Remember that the Emerondians will be very powerful adversaries. Hope this helps. I wouldn't allow a thing such as "ghost bombs" in my campaign because I think that is not in the spirit of a fantasy game, but thats my opinion. I believe you and your player could have more fun if your player will try to gain an advantage (possibly a magical one) with role playing and not exploiting the game rules for spells. How about sending your nosferatu to Tothia to get "the scarab of mummyfication" which allows fast creation of an army of mummies. A quick question. Accourding to the Mystaran Net Almanac, the war with the Golden Khan ends the life of Jherek Virayana. What happens to the Nightwing under his control at the tower of sighs? Does Dolores control it? Is it free? Is it bound to haunt the tower no matter what happens to it's summoner? Thanks Ohad Shaham (aka Morphail) --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Y!
