I am a complete newbie to Mystara, Blackmoor, and this list, so I apologize if my question is not a good one and/or has been covered hundreds of times before (it wasn't in the FAQ on Vaults of Pandius!). I understand Zeitgeist Games is publishing the Blackmoor setting, but that it will not be the Mystara Blackmoor (nor of course the Greyhawk Blackmoor) because Zeitgeist does not have the rights to Mystara. My question is, can't those rights be licensed? You could still use the "Blackmoor" trademark rather than "Mystara"--the former probably actually has a higher value as far as name recognition. And naturally you would use a timeline where Blackmoor still existed! But it would not be such a bad idea in my opinion to use the same world setting as Blackmoor was formerly placed in. If, as it seems, this is not the plan, is a completely new world being built around Blackmoor or is it being build as a more localized setting that basically ignores the question of the world at large (and hence can be placed in any world the DM desires)? Why would somebody come up with such evil ideas? ... ah oh, wait.. maybe I know why. U are obviously referring to that player of yours who wants to undertake the path to the Sphere of Entropy, as u described a couple of mails after this one.. oh well, nasty!< Yep, that's the guy alright. > What could happen is that the gate to this pocket dimension could collapse, surely. Or it could taint the tree's magic and make it become inhospitable to its dwellers. Or even better, it could turn the tree into an undead treant or an undead repository, and whoever enters it is suddenly altered by the negative energy and turned into a zombie, skeleton, wight or whatever if his mind and soul don't resist the energies.< This might be what I'll do if he manages to succeed. > Or the Emerondians could cure it before it's too late (it ain't that far fetched). After all you've got a Druid/Priest of Ordana guarding it who reaches OD&D 36th level (at least IMC), so it ain't so easy to overcome him. And after him, u still have to defeat the other 2 Protectors of Emerond. ;)< I was thinking that they would survive his assault on Emerond and flee with refugee's into the hinterlands thereby awakening Thyatis interest in his activities. Then Thyatis could send survivors back as commando teams to harass him and try torestore the tree. Thanks again for the help. Caroletti, "Situations for Dreamworld" This is just a way to show how big the potentials are to combine two works to create something cool and surprising that a DM can use against a player. Not the "standard vampire", anymore... If I had time, I'd really give a look at those Vampires by Agathokles (and I think there is another way of classification written by Gilles Leblanc, isn't there?) The only differences may be in calling the Immortals Gods, and not having the Spheres of Power, but it's not much of a difference: we can simply assume that the Blackmoorians call them Gods and that they don't know about the Spheres. Not much of a problem, I think. 8-) Iulius Sergius Scaevola Captain of the XXth Cohort Port Lucinius, Thyatis ______________________________________________________________________ Mio Yahoo!: personalizza Yahoo! come piace a te http://it.yahoo.com/mail_it/foot/?http://it.my.yahoo.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Oct 2002 18:51:08 +0000 From: Agathokles Subject: Re: Vampires of Mystara: The Lost Bloodline la Volpe wrote: > > This is just a way to show how big the potentials > are to combine two works to create something cool > and surprising that a DM can use against a player. > Not the "standard vampire", anymore... > If I had time, I'd really give a look at those > Vampires by Agathokles Thanks, Giulio :) > (and I think there is another > way of classification written by Gilles Leblanc, > isn't there?) Indeed. Gilles' classification is quite different from mine, but the Dream Vampire should work fine with it as well, since it is not so tightly linked to Mystara's history as the others. If it is so "abundant" then why would anyone want it so badly? The whole gold reward system makes the game more like a video game. It seems that everyone has gold, even down to the last kolbold. Murder humanoids, take their gold, and buy stuff... Thinking of humanoids, where did they come across minted gold coins? If they had this in abundence, how? If this was through raiding, then the army would go and exterminate them, and so forth... If humanoids could not exchange the gold with civilized, then what's the point of having gold? Also, if seems that it seems that well made metal weapons are so scarce. The humanoids would surely want such weapons if they could not make it themselves, they would barter, steal, or offer something very valuable to humans than gold. I remember reading about early viking explorations the New World and their encounter with skaelings ("screamers" in Norse language, which is how they described natives in New Foundland area). The natives wanted to the metal weapons and at one point tried to steal them as the Norse would not trade their weapons with the natives. - jm __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? This is a very classic and simply awesome series. The synopsis is that PCs are abducted on a raid during a party with well-to-dos. They wake up with no weapons/armor, and must through challenges survive. Eventually they fight the slavers and the wizards behind the organization on a remote island. I think this module can have many tie-ins with Ierendi, and a creative GM can tie it in to pirates (paticularly successful pirates) and Honor Island Fire Wizards and other adventures. This also works if DMs, which to make these slavers the Iron Ring, where their new headquarters are in Ierendi (or thereabouts) and that the PCs could attend a party with ambassadors in Karameikos, when they are abducted. If the PCs succeed, they can game fame throughout many kingdoms leading to many adventures. - Joaquin __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Y! The Fire Wizards with their gnomish inventions on Honor Island is rather interesting. HONOR ISLAND A PC coming from this island, could start at age 14, have a mini-fire elemental as a familiar, and 1d2 goblin slaves. The PC would also be able to buy magic items at discount, like regular equipment. I have the gnomes in Highforge of Karameikos have regular connections with the Honor Island folks. The gnomes can create devices that require, in Real World terms, combustion through use of fire elemental energy sources that heat up steam. This allows them to create primitive tanks, gyrocopters, mortars, cannons, and other mechanations. The gnomes and the Honor Island wizards have close relations. WHITE ISLAND I changed this around in allowing psionic enabled PCs to survive on the island without going insane. Unknown to many is a monastic order of Mentats that live and dwell on the island. They call out to other talented persons and call them to the island so they can join the One Mind. ALCOVE ISLAND This island is great for relaxation that is so good, that PCs become have the affect of being blessed for their next mission, though they must be completely rested and relaxed for 1 whole week, i.e. no combat. Though also, many pirates exist on the island. ELEGY ISLAND Ravenloft has one Ghost Ship adventure, which could use Elegy island as a good supstitute for the island presented in the module. UNDER THE SEA There some sea modules that would be great to link these with the Sea Kingdoms creature crubicle and also Ierendi. As a last note, the Swashbuckler adventures would be a good book for some D&D3E style rules for creating a swashbuckling feel to Ierendi. - Joaquin __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
