Not to speak of all the cases of people with "a touch of elvish blood",
still treated as humans in OD&D (like the Glantri amabassador in Glantri,
IIRC).

Actually that is not a contradiction. Because elves and humans can still breed
just that offspring will be elvish or human not a mixture. Therefore they can
be part elf by blood but will not at all be elven, or an elf could have human
blood but will not at all be human.

It all stems from tolken where similar is true. Half-elven have to chose to
either live as elves or as humans and as humans they have longer lifespan but
still die but will not die as elves. Elrond is known as the half-elven as it
seems that he is the only half-elf to have chosen to remain an elf and is
definately still an elf while his siblings chose to live as humans and are
dead. While this is different from Gaz 5 it is simmilar in that there are mo
true half-elves. They are either elves or human even though there blood is
mixed.

But each DM to their own choices but there are no half elves in my mystara and
I know why.
