If you want the racial distribution of Specularum/Mirros, no source specifically gives that -- although the character creation tables would suggest the following: Human: The population of the capital city is mostly human. Halfling: Only the wealthiest halflings are likely to come from the capital city. Elf: A handful of elves (the families of Stefan's Elvenguard) live in the capital city. Dwarf: Virtually no dwarves or gnomes live in the capital city (they are all in Highforge). For distribution throughout Karameikos we have better information in the Poor Wizard's Almanac for 1010-1012 AC: Human: 240,000 -- 250,000 -- 351,000 Elf: 100,000 -- 71,000 -- 71,000 Gnome: 5000-- 5000 -- 5000 Dwarf: 3000 -- 3000 -- 3000 Halfling: 2000 -- 2000 -- 2000 PWA II and III both state that the 1010 AC figure of 100,000 elves was in error. It is not certain which of the figures for the human population is correct -- there is no way that the human population could have grown that fast, especially since the ethnic distribution of Thyatians, Traladarans, and mixed/other remains constant at 15%/60%/25%. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 20:57:50 -0500 From: David Knott Subject: Re: B6: Theosius, the sculpter From: "Darth Darknerd" > > ------------------------------------------------------ > Theosius Dubei, the sculptor: Male human Exp7; CR 4; > Medium-size humanoid (human); HD 7d6+7; hp 35; Init -1 > (Dex); Spd 40 ft.; AC 9 (-1 Dex); Atk +5 melee > (1d4-1, dagger, Str); AL NG; SV Fort +3, Ref +1, Will > +7; Str 9, Dex 9, Con 12, Int 16, Wis 14, Cha 16 > > Skills and Feats: Appraise +11, Bluff +9, Craft > (Sculpting) +23, Diplomancy +20, Knowledge > (Karameikos) +6, Intimidate +9, Listen +3, Profession > (Woodcutter) +10, Sense Motive +16, Spot +3; Skill > Focus (Craft), Skill Focus (Diplomancy), Skill Focus > (Sense Motive), Skill Focus (Knowledge), Skill Focus > (Appraise) > ------------------------------------------------------ > > As Theosius is a reknown scultor in Specularum for the > nobles, I made him an expert class at 7th. I see a few problems with this description: 1) "Skill Focus (Craft)" should be more specific: "Skill Focus (Craft (Sculpting))". 2) "Diplomacy" is misspelled. 3) Many of those skill bonuses are way too high. For class skills, the maximum bonus is 10 (for skill ranks) +2 (for Skill Focus feat, if applicable) + ability score modifier. 4) Once you get the skill bonuses down to a reasonable figure, check the total skill points. If this NPC began his career with an Int of 16, he should have a total of (6 + 3 + 1) x (7 + 3) or 100 skill points. If all ten of the listed skills above are class skills, then some skills are way too high and others are way too low (as he would have to assign ten points to each skill if he does not take any cross-class skills). ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 21:22:57 -0500 From: David Knott Subject: Re: D&D3E Stats for Specularum From: "Darth Darknerd" > Specularum (Large City): standard; AL LN; 225,000 gp > limit; Assets 756,000 gp; Population 63,480; Mixed > (88% human*, 2% dwarf, 3% elf**, 2% gnome, 4% > halflings, 1% other) I think that your figures for dwarves, gnomes, and halflings might be a bit on the high side -- in fact, your figures have more halflings in Specularum than exist in the whole of Karameikos according to the PWA (which gives 5000 gnomes, 3000 dwarves, and 2000 halflings in the entire nation). >> From the tables in K:KoA, there is a 25% chance of any elf (85% Callarii, 15% Vyalia or other in K:KoA, or 95% Callarii and 5% Vyalia in Gaz 1) coming from a human community. Since all elves are "Comfortable" and "Wizards", they would apply a +6 modifier to the roll for which human community they come from, for a 50% chance of being from Specularum/Mirros. Thus, about 12.5% of the Callarii elf population of 30,000 lives in Specularum/Mirros, for a total elven population of just under 4000. Your figure of 60,000 or so seems to be pretty close for 1000 AC (the figure would be closer to 70,000 in the post-WotI era), and it would make the elven population just under 7% of the total. For the humans, note that the inhabitants of Specularum tend to be wealthy and of higher social rank, thereby skewing the overall distribution in favor of Thyatians at the expense of Traladarans. I would thus distribute the population as follows: Human: 92% (Thyatian 25%, Traladaran 45%, Mixed 28%, Other 2%) Elf: 7% (Callarii 95%, Vyalia 4%, Other 1%) Other: 1% (Dwarf, Gnome, and Halfling) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 21:26:03 -0500 From: David Knott Subject: Re: D&D3E Stats for Specularum From: "Darth Darknerd" > > Authority Figures: Lord Lucas Tormandros, the > Townsmaster, male human Ftr4; Duke Stefan Karameikos > III, male human Ftr15 > > Other Notable Figures: Aleksander Torenescu, leader > of the Tornescu clan, male human Ftr1; Boris Tornescu, > Tornescu clan, male human Ftr3; Anton Radu, leader of > the Radu clan, male human Rog12; Philip Vorlio, leader > of the Vorloi clan, male human Ftr3; Lord Dmitrios, > Prince of Beggars, male human Ftr4; Aleksyvev > Nikelnevich, Partriarch of the Church of Traladara, > male human Clr11; Sergyve, Cult of Halav, male human > Clr9; Lord Olliver Jowett, Patriarch of The Church of > Karameikos in Specularum, Master of the Order of the > Griffon, Clr18 I haven't checked the figures against the source material, but here are a couple of points you may want to consider: 1) Some of the listed low level fighters might be Warriors instead. 2) Higher level characters might have some levels in prestige classes. Stefan should probably be an Ari/Ftr/Warmaster (a common combination for virtually any character born into the nobility and designated a "fighter" in the source material), and the Order of the Griffon might be a prestige class in its own right. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 20 Dec 2002 to 22 Dec 2002 (#2002-330) ****************************************************************
