I recently subscribed to this list, as I am in the initial steps of creating my AD&D 2E Mystara campaign, and I wanted to participate in a forum where the world of Mystara is the main focus. I have read with interest many of the old digests found on this mailing lists web page, and I look forward to participating in some past and current topics. As my campaign in progress is a mix of various gaming resources ( its not a "pure" D&D Mystara resource only game) I was wondering if it is allowed by common usage here to post topics about non-standard Mystara based campaign ideas in order to get some ideas and feedback on some things I have in mind (like the use of gunpowder by the Rockhome dwarves for starters). I would also like to ask quite a few questions about the world of Mystara, as the only references I have are: D&D Expert Rules D&D Cyclopedia Poor Wizard's Almanac 1010 Champions of Mystara Creature Catalog ('86,'93) The Dwarves of Rockhome The Kingdom of Irendi The Emirates of Ylaruam Mystara Players Survival Kit Mystara DM Survival Kit Quagmire King's Festival Queen's Harvest Plus a few websites I had recently visited. Hope I can contribute something positive to this list, George ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 00:41:35 +0100 From: Jacob Skytte Subject: Re: New Reader Giorgio wrote: > Greetings all! As long as it relates to Mystara, I don't think it matters if it's = standard or not. Of course if people aren't interested in a particular = topic, they'll probably ignore it. But it's not out of line to post = ideas for campaign variations. > I would also like to ask quite a few questions about the world of = Mystara, Which we'll be quite happy to answer. > Plus a few websites I had recently visited. Many answers can probably be found on the official Mystara Homepage = (link appears at end of message) and perhaps the Mystaran Almanac = (http://www.geocities.com/gallidox/files.htm), which, despite what it = says on that page, was updated recently. Glad to have you here! Many of you have played out the > successful shadowelf invasion of Canolbarth - did you devise anything like > this? In the back story (work in progress) of my Mystara campaign, a series of mayor wars broke out all across the Known World ( the equivalent of WW1 in my game). In spring of 800 AC a great horde of humanoids from the Broken Lands launched a war of conquest against the nations of Glantri, Darokin, and Alfheim. The humanoids numbers had been magical increased as a by product of an ancient artifact of entropy that had lain dormant in the broken lands until activated by the humanoids. The humanoids managed to lay waste to a third of Glantri, half of Darokin (including the sacking of the capital), and a fourth of Alfheim (800-805 AC). They where finally stopped when the full might of the Rockhome army was thrown against them along with the remains of the Elven and Darokin armies in the summer of 805. The addition of the dwarven forces caused a turning point in the war, although it was another 3 years before the Humanoids hordes where throw back though their original borders. The cost in lives on all sides was great as the humanoids where able to quickly replenish their forces due the effects of the artifact. This continued until a joint commando strike force was able to penetrate the humanoids main fortress in the Broken lands, and with the aid of an artifact of matter, where able to destroy the entropy artifact. When the war ended in the winter of 808 AC the nations of Glantri, Darokin and Alfheim laid in ruins, their economies in shatters, their armies destroyed and their people broken. One result of the war was the elevation of the Rockhome dwarves as a mayor military , political and economic power during the years of reconstruction that followed. As regards to the losses suffered by the elves, they lost: 1-All the settled areas west of the River Of Monsters and to the west and east of the Foestop River(Ainsun, Dew Drop, Elleromyr, IronBark, Dream Land, Sheildtree, Dragon Tree). 2-A significant part of their military (no less then 80%), and have at least a third of their population homeless/displaced. As a result of this, the elven people had to face a series of crisis (housing, food, diseases) that caused great hardship to them, and cause a great shock/wake up call that let them know that while they may have tried to forget about the outside world, the outside world didn't forget about them. This cause the isolationist camp of elven thought to lose sway, as most elves preferred to engage the outside world to prevent another war catching them unprepared. The lost of so many elven lives caused many aspects of elven life to be questioned, and above all what was the role of the elves in the world. Many changes followed during the rebuilding after the war, including the expansion of the Elven military forces, a peace treaty with the Dwarves, the formation of Elven War bands (veterans of the war that banded together to avenge the loss of their families to the humanoids) and the active involvement of the elves in the affairs of the outside world. Don't know if any of this helps for your game.... :) George ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Feb 2002 19:40:09 -0600 From: George Hrabovsky Subject: My new site Greetings all! Have you considered something like the Verseilles Treaty against Germany as being in place against the Broken Lands? Have you considered the political effects of a weakened Darokin on the trade partnerships in the Known World?
