The actual level conversion aspect is a bit up in the air at the moment, given the changes to ECL in a recent Dragon Magazine (and potentially different ones in the forthcoming Tooth and Claw supplement), but the following material can be used. Note, that this has not been discussed by the development team yet, it is a draft proposal: Dryad ----- It should be noted that the Dryad in the MM is actually an 0e Hamadryad since it cannot stray from its tree. The Mystaran Dryad is not tied to its tree. Faun ---- The 0e Faun is an immature Satyr, starting at 1 HD and becoming a Satyr at 5 HD. I have proposed the following changes to the 3e Satyr for Mystara: The Pipes ability should be based on the 'Emotion' spell rather than the Charm Person, Sleep and Fear affects specified. A Satyr with 10 monster levels (not class levels) can use the Pipes ability to emulate the Plant Growth spell. The Satyr should gain the spell-like ability of Speak with Animals three times per day. Hsiao ----- This is a new monster for 3e, the following suggestion is modelled largely on the Owl. I've deliberately started the Hsiaou at 1 HD rather than 4 because players can start at 1 HD in PC1 and the Hsiaou starts to get spells at 2nd level which would complicate progression unless the cleric spells were part of the monster instead of being a character class. I think they should be a class: Small Beast Hit Dice: 1d10 (5hp) Initiative: +3 (Dex) Speed: 20 ft., fly 50 ft (Average) AC: 18 (+1 size, +3 Dex, +4 natural) Attacks: 2 claws +3 Melee, bite -5 melee Damage: Claw 1d3-1, Bite 1d4-1 Face/Reach: 5 ft. by 5 ft./5 ft. Saves: Fort +2, Reflex +5, Will +3 Abilities: Str 8, Dex 17, Con 10, Int 14, Wis 16, Cha 10 Skills: Hide+11, Knowledge(nature)+6, Knowledge(any)+6, Listen+15, Move Silently+17, Spellcraft +6, Spot +7 Feats: Weapon Finesse (claws) Climate/Terrain: Woods and Forests Organization: Solitary, pair or group (3-20) CR: 1/2 Treasure: Standard (No coins or gems) Alignment: Usually Lawful Good Advancement: By character class (usually Cleric). HD1-3 are immature young adults. Hsiaou gain a +8 racial bonus to Listen checks, +10 racial bonus to move silently checks and a +4 size bonus to Hide checks. They receive a +8 racial bonus to Spot checks in dusk and darkness. Treant ------ I don't think that a Treant is likely to have a class, I think that we should specify that it always advances as a treant. I propose that Treant characters can start off as an immature Treant with 1-6 HD. Immature treants would be a size category less (i.e. 16' = Large) this would be -8 Str, +2 Dex, -4 Con, -3 Natural Armour, +1 AC and +1 attack vs. the book stats. The immature treant would lose the trample and animate trees abilities. Wood Imp -------- There is no Wood Imp in 3e so I've created one. Although they have no supernatural abilities they are descended from fairies and I am thus using the Fey monster type: Tiny Fey Hit Dice: 1/2 d6 +1 (2hp) Initiative: +3 (Dex) Speed: 20 ft AC: 15 (+2 size, +3 Dex) Attacks: Bite -1 melee or Small greatsword -1 melee Or composite shortbow +5 ranged Damage: Bite 1d3-3 or greatsword 1d6-3 or composite Shortbow 1d4 and poison Face/Reach: 2 1/2 ft. by 2 1/2 ft./0 ft. Special Attacks: Poison Saves: Fort +1, Reflex +5, Will +2 Abilities: Str 5, Dex 17, Con 12, Int 10, Wis 11, Cha 8 Skills: Escape artist +5, Handle Animal +5, Hide +15, Listen +4, Move Silently +7, Ride(spider) +9, Search +4, Spot +4 Feats: Point Blank Shot Climate/Terrain: Dark woods Organization: Gang (1-6), band (6-11) or tribe (20-80) CR: 1/4 Treasure: Standard Alignment: Always chaotic evil Advancement: By character class Poison (Ex): Wood imps often coat their arrows in Wood Spider venom (DC 10, initial and secondary damage 1d3 Dex). The wood imp is skilled in the application of poison and does not risk accidentally poisoning himself when applying the venom. Skills: Wood Imps get a +2 racial bonus to Ride and Handle Animal checks. Brownie/Redcap -------------- There are no brownies or redcaps in 3e so I've created them: Brownie (Small Fey) Hit Dice: 2d6 (7 hp) Initiative: +3 (+3 Dex) Speed: 30 ft. AC: 15 (+1 size, +3 Dex) Attacks: Dagger +1 or shortsword +1 melee Damage: Dagger 1d4-1 or shortsword 1d6-1 Face/Reach: 5 ft. by 5 ft./5 ft. Special Qualities: Faerie Traits Saves: Fort +1, Reflex +7, Will +4 Abilities: Str 8, Dex 17, Con 10, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 8 Skills: Craft(any) +5, Hide +12, Listen +4, Move Silently +8, Search +4, Spot +4, Use Magic Device +4 Feats: Endurance Climate/Terrain: Temperate Forest Organization: Solitary CR: 1/2 Treasure: None Alignment: Always lawful good Advancement: By character class Brownies get a +1 racial bonus on all saving throws. Faerie Traits are as follows: Invisibility to Mortals (Sp): All faeries may become invisible to mortals at will as a standard action. This is the same as the invisibility spell except that creatures with second sight can see the subject normally. Second Sight (Ex): This is the ability common to all faeries and some mortals to be able to recognize a Fey creature's true form even when invisible to mortals, polymorphed or shapechanged. Immunity to Normal Disease (Ex): Faeries are immune to all normal diseases but may still be affected by magical diseases such as mummy rot. Immortality (Ex): Faeries do not grow old. Death is merely a change in the cycle of their existence in which they become reborn as another faerie (in 0-999 years time). Holy Aversion (Ex): Faeries take 1d4 damage from Holy Water (no splash damage) and are made uncomfortable and tend to avoid Holy Symbols, Prayers or the names of the Immortals. Faeries cannot normally cast divine magic but, in the unlikely event that they would look for and find an immortal willing to accept them, they could trade all of the above traits for the opportunity to become a follower of that immortal. Redcap (Small Fey) Hit Dice: 2d6 (7 hp) Initiative: +3 (+3 Dex) Speed: 30 ft. AC: 15 (+1 size, +3 Dex) Attacks: Dagger +1 or halfspear +1 melee or 2 Claws +1 and Bite -4 melee Damage: Dagger 1d4-1 or halfspear 1d6-1 or Claw 1d2-1 and Bite 1d3-1 Face/Reach: 5 ft. by 5 ft./5 ft. Special Qualities: Faerie Traits, Holy Water Vulnerability Saves: Fort +0, Reflex +6, Will +3 Abilities: Str 8, Dex 17, Con 10, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 6 Skills: Hide +12, Intimidate +3, Listen +4, Move Silently +8, Search +4, Spot +4, Use Magic Device +3 Feats: Dodge Climate/Terrain: Temperate Forest Organization: Solitary CR: 1/2 Treasure: None Alignment: Always lawful good Advancement: By character class Holy Water Vulnerability: Redcaps take full (1d8 or 1pt splash) damage from Holy Water. Leprechaun ---------- There are no leprechauns in 3e so I've created them: Leprechaun (Diminutive Fey) Hit Dice: 1/4 d6 (1 hp) Initiative: +8 (+4 Dex, +4 Improved Initiative) Speed: 20 ft. AC: 18 (+4 size, +4 Dex) Attacks: Sword +0 melee Damage: Sword 1d3-4 Face/Reach: 1 ft. by 1 ft./0 ft. Special Qualities: Faerie Traits, Invisibility limitation, Spell-like Abilities Saves: Fort +0, Reflex +6, Will +2 Abilities: Str 3, Dex 19, Con 10, Int 14, Wis 10, Cha 14 Skills: Bluff +6, Craft(any two) +8, Escape Artist +8, Heal +4, Hide +18, Listen +4, Move Silently +8, Search +4, Sense Motive +4, Spot +4 Feats: Brew Potion, Craft Wondrous Item, Improved Initiative Climate/Terrain: Temperate Forest Organization: Solitary, pair or band (3-10) CR: 1/4 Treasure: Triple Standard Alignment: Always lawful good Advancement: By character class Invisibility Limitation: Leprechauns cannot activate Invisibility to Mortals while a mortal is watching them. Spell-like Abilities: 1/day Detect Magic, Detect Thoughts, Locate Object, Mending, Prestidigitation, Warp Wood. These abilities are as if the spells were cast by a 7th level sorcerer (save DC 12 + spell level). Skills: Leprechauns get a +2 racial bonus to all craft checks Leprechauns may qualify for Item Creation feats as though a spell caster three levels higher than their actual caster level. I added the spell-like abilities because almost all Fey have them in the MM and they seemed to fit the concept. Sprite/Pixie ------------ Pixies and Sprites are a little tricky since the 3e versions of these do not quite match: a Sprite, in 3e, is a generic term that includes Pixies, Nixies and Grig but, in 0e, Sprites are different to Pixies (although the difference, according to PC1, is primarily one of profession). The other problem is that 0e Pixies are 1'-2' tall and Sprites are no more than 15". This makes them Tiny creatures, unlike the 2.5' tall 3e pixies who are Small. Given all of the detailed background and powers that PC1 attribute to the Faerie races I think this is one instance where we should be changing the standard MM entry and make alternate Mystaran versions of these two races. With the Pixie and Sprite being similar to the existing 3e Pixie but Tiny. Pixie ----- In addition to making it Tiny, the 3e Pixie will need to be modified to include the Mystaran Faerie traits (as detailed for the Brownie). Use Magic Device can be added as a Pixie class skill and Speak with Animals 3/day should be added to their spell-like abilities. In changing to Tiny the Pixie will lose 4 Str and gain 2 Dex, +1 AC and +1 to attack bonus. This makes Str a bit too low so I would be inclined to offset this with a +4 Str, -2 Dex, -2 Int, -2 Wis adjustment: Pixie (Tiny Fey) Hit Dice: 1d6 (3 hp) Initiative: +4 (Dex) Speed: 20 ft., fly 60 ft. (good) AC: 17 (+2 size, +4 Dex, +1 natural) Attacks: Dagger +6 melee; or composite shortbow +7 ranged Damage: Dagger 1d4-2; or composite shortbow 1d4 Face/Reach: 2 1/2 ft. by 2 1/2 ft./0 ft. Special Attacks: Spell-like abilities, special arrows Special Qualities: SR 16, natural invisibility, Faerie Traits Saves: Fort +0, Reflex +6, Will +3 Abilities: Str 7, Dex 18, Con 11, Int 14, Wis 13, Cha 16 Skills: Bluff +6, Concentration +4, Craft(any one) +6, Escape Artist +7, Heal +5, Hide +12, Listen +7, Move Silently +8, Search +7, Sense Motive +5, Spot +7, Use Magic Device +4 Feats: Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Weapon Finesse (dagger), Weapon Focus (shortbow) Climate/Terrain: Temperate Forest Organization: Gang (2-4), band (6-11) or tribe (10-40) CR: 4 Treasure: No coins, 50% goods, 50% items Alignment: Always neutral good Advancement: 2-3 HD(Tiny) Spell-like abilities: As per MM plus 3/day Speak with Animals Sprite ------ In 3e I would create them the same as Pixies except that after adjusting the standard pixie to Tiny, stats should then be altered to +2 Str, -2 Dex, rather than the changes for the Pixie above. They won't get the Use Magic Device or the Natural Invisibility traits but they will get the Curse ability and Faerie traits: Sprite (Tiny Fey) Hit Dice: 1/2 d6 (1 hp) Initiative: +4 (Dex) Speed: 20 ft., fly 60 ft. (good) AC: 17 (+2 size, +4 Dex, +1 natural) Attacks: Dagger +6 melee Damage: Dagger 1d4-3 Face/Reach: 2 1/2 ft. by 2 1/2 ft./0 ft. Special Attacks: Curse, Spell-like abilities Special Qualities: SR 16, Faerie Traits Saves: Fort +0, Reflex +6, Will +4 Abilities: Str 5, Dex 18, Con 11, Int 16, Wis 15, Cha 16 Skills: Bluff +7, Concentration +4, Craft(any one) +7, Escape Artist +8, Heal +6, Hide +16, Listen +8, Move Silently +8, Search +8, Sense Motive +6, Spellcraft +7, Spot +8 Feats: Dodge, Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Weapon Finesse (dagger), Weapon Focus (shortbow) Climate/Terrain: Temperate Forest Organization: Gang (3-6), band (6-18) or tribe (10-40) CR: 1 Treasure: No coins, 50% goods, 50% items Alignment: Always neutral good Advancement: 2-3 HD(Tiny) Curse: A group of five Sprites can cooperate to cast one Bestow Curse spell as a standard action. This usually takes the form of a magic practical joke, such as tripping or having one's nose grow. This spell is as though cast by a 15th level caster and has a DC of 17 plus the highest Wisdom bonus of the group. Sidhe (Medium-sized Fey) Hit Dice: 1d6-1 (2 hp) Initiative: +4 (Dex) Speed: 30 ft., Swim 20 ft. AC: 11 (+1 Dex) Attacks: Halfspear +0 melee; or light crossbow +1 ranged Damage: Halfspear 1d6; or light crossbow 1d8 Face/Reach: 5 ft. by 5 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: None Special Qualities: Faerie Traits, Speak with Animals, Iron Allergy Saves: Fort -1, Ref +3, Will +2 Abilities: Str 10, Dex 13, Con 8, Int 11, Wis 11, Cha 11 Skills: Animal Empathy +3, Craft (any One) or Knowledge (any one) +3, Escape Artist +4, Hide +4, Listen +4, Move Silently +5, Search +3, Sense Motive +3, Spot +3, Wilderness Lore +4 Feats: Dodge Climate/Terrain: Temperate forest, temperate plains and temperate aquatic Organization: Company (2-4), squad (11-20 plus for every 10 Sidhe there will be one Fey Sorcerer 1/Warrior 1 and 50% chance of one Fey Sorcerer 1-2/Rogue 1-2), band (30-50 plus 20% concombatants plus as per squad plus one Fey Sorcerer 2-3/Warrior 2-3 per 25 adults), Clan (50-100 plus 20% noncombatants plus as per band, plus 33% Fey Sorcerer 4-7/Warrior 4-7 or 33% Fey Sorcerer 3-7/Rogue 3-7 or 33% both). Groups of 100 will 95% be led by a Fey Sorcerer/ Fighter, Fey Sorcerer/Warrior or Fey Sorcerer/ Rogue of not less than character level 12. CR: ½ Treasure: Standard Alignment: Always Chaotic Good Advancement: By character class Speak with Animals (Sp): Usable at will. Iron Allergy (Ex): The sidhe find contact with any form of iron to be extremely discomforting and will avoid it at all costs. Long term contact is poisonous to the sidhe; this includes ingesting food cooked with iron utensils. After every day in which the Sidhe has had more than an hour's contact with Iron, a Sidhe must make a fortitude save with a DC of 5 + 1 for every hour of contact within that 24 hour period. If the save is failed, the Sidhe takes 1d4 temporary Con and 1d2 temporary Str damage. If he fails a second fortitude save, the ability loss is permanent. A Sidhe's favoured class is "Any" Regards Julian ______________________________________________________ Sjekk snørapporter... fra 500 ski-destinasjoner i Europa på http://no.snow.yahoo.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Mar 2002 16:12:25 +0000 From: Agathokles Subject: Re: Online Mystara Material Havard Faanes wrote: > > > The Savage Coast supplements and the Shadow Elves > Gazetteer are available from dnd.starflung.com IIRC As is B3 (Silver Princess). The Thyatian priesthood (Sacred Order) would be fairly similar, with more focus on order and wisdom, and less on war. Priests come from all Lawful alignments. Centaur cult focuses more on Ixion's creative nature rather than on his Fire aspect, due to the destructive properties of this element. Priests come from all non-evil alignments. Yazak priests derive their tradition from the Oltec cult of Ixion. They are based on Maztican Sun Priests. Priests are Lawful Neutral or True Neutral. Sindhi priesthood is spread over the three major aspects of Ixion in that culture (Ayazi/Himayeti/Aksyri). Allowed alignments are any Neutral for the Preserver, any non-Evil for the Creator, and any non-Lawful for the Destroyer. Nimmurian (Enduk) priests are usually Lawful Good. Other specialty priests of Ixion are found in the Wallara Lands (Wallara Mendoo), Ethengar (these would be similar to the Goblinoid priests). Other nations where Ixion is known are likely to worship him through pantheists. -- Giampaolo Agosta agathokles@libero.it agosta@elet.polimi.it http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Mar 2002 17:25:45 -0800 From: Jordi Castille Subject: Re: Mystara GURPS Tech Level (1,000 AC) v1 That was an interesting weapon the 6 shooter crossbow, i wonder what the stats and firing are on that weapon, i could see that spreading it ways to the City states, and later the known world Havard Faanes wrote: --- Alex Benson skrev: > Kind of changing things somewhat. I think for the known world to have a city of orcs, they would be better suited if placed in a hidden area with lots of cover near the mountain like the Woods near the Denagoth Plateau. or have it hidden in the Canolbarth forest near the Cruth Mountains, just a suggest. Built from the ruins of an ancient dwarven stronghold the orcs themselves destroyed, the hordes of Skraag range for miles in every direction, brining slaughter and misery to any community unfortunate enough to be within range of their predations. < Don't own it and haven't read it yet (though I do enjoy some of Mongoose's stuff- the Quintessential Rogue is pretty good, and I like Seas of Blood). If I were to suggest placement though, I'd say either Oenkmar (the city beneath the Broken Lands) prior to it's being taken over by Shadowelves in 1013 AC (just change it from a dwarven stronghold to an ancient elven/azcan city) or else perhaps the realm currently under construction in the Orclands of Darokin, under the leadership of Tlatepetl (see recent Mystaran Almanacs). Another alternative location might be to situate it in the ruins of Jhyrrad in Rockhome, but declare that the orcs have been building it up again secretly for many years. ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.dnd.starflung.com/ To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!?
