A few months back (once I'd got used to 3E) I decided to run a Mystara campaign, the only setting I really know. Even though I was running for a very experienced group I first ran the 3 adventures from the Goblins Lair (now ruined with skill DC's etc scrawled all over). We all had a lot of fun, being so experienced the group had forgot a lot about basic dungeon bashes! The main point of all this though is that I mis-read the lycanthropy bit in MM and subjected a character to the effects of taking belladonna as a cure as part of the 'normal' effects of the disease (ie the loss of STR etc). I managed to come up with a plausible reason though - the charcter in question was a shadow-elf and under OD&D it would have been fatal. There is now a house rule that all demihumans are 'allergic' to lycanthropy and suffer this effect, but if they survive the STR loss they will become lycanthropes. What do you think? I also thought "Where the heck did this idea of Alig languages came from?". And during a talk about religion with some evangelist friends of mine, i discovered! It is somewhat a long story, but it is worth it. (i hope :) ) I myself being an spiritist (is that in english?) always wondered why all those different congregations of the evangelist faith? What made'em different from each other? Did they not pray all to Christ according to the New Testament? As i were a student of Social work at the time, many of my coleagues were religious people, so i asked them when we were reunited. Well they explained to me that one of hte many differences between two of the faiths they represented regarded a point on a passage of the bible about the apostles being able to talk to everybody around them. There were two interpretations: a) In one the apostle was given by God the ability to speak and that his audience would hear him in THEIR language, so that everyone understood what he said in the best way possible. b) The other stated that God blessed him to speak in a sacred language understandable to all people on earth, however which was so special that in only a moment like that it could have been used. THERE IT IS! Explaning....... As ancient D&D saw aligments almost like religion (you were either of the Lawful faith, Chaotic faith or Neutral faith) and being Gary Gygax from U.S.A. were protestant religions are common, maybe he could have taken rationale B as a form to express faith in the game. Thou believest in order, thou knowest the sacred language of Order (lawful). One change that could help make it more sensible would be to make the language avaiable to all faithfull of a sinlge god or pantheon, or let it be and say that the cosmos choose this way to express his emotions.
