At last. When I get some time off, I'll try to finish the War diaries (the first ones can be found in the vaults). Here are some notes if you are interested: Darokin drove away the armies of the Master, with a lot of help from Glantri and Alfheim, plus Shires, Ierendi and Minrothad in the last phase of liberating Akorros. Still, Akesoli and Akorros were pretty much devastated. The Allied Expeditionary Force won against the Legion of Doom, and the PCs destroyed the Soul Gem of Thanatos in Sayr Ulan. Ylaruamians captured Selenica after fierce battles, but were forced to retreat after the Rockhome dwarves cut their supply lines and Alfheimians and Karameikans laid siege on the city. The Ylaruamians forged a deal to get home without a fight, since Thyatis had invaded their homeland. In the end Thyatis defeated the remaining armies of Ylaruam around the capital, with the help or Northmen raiders who had been ransacking defenceless towns of Ylaruam. After the PCs killed the wanna-be Great Khan Chanai, a civil war erupted in Ethengar. Batu Khan of the Bortaks came out as the new Great Khan, surprisingly enough. During the civil war two Glantrian armies attacked the steppes, but were defeated utterly due to serious tactical errors. In the final stage some humanoid hordes from Broken Lands, the Tangut orcs and the Hostai goblins, plus the Sliktor orcs and the Hooplak hobgoblins (the last two had been hired by Batu to fight against Chanai) attacked the withdrawing Glantrians. The humanoid alliance were given the westernmost areas of Ethengar, thus forming a buffer zone between Batu´s realm and Glantri. Now the PCs are on route back to Darokin. There a multi-national peace conference awaits. Some serious changes are coming. Most notable of them is the new Darokinian goverment. Some people want to restore monarchy (the Borderland Magistrates mostly), some want to break the power of the merchants and to create a new Counil - but the Merchants have other plans... can you say "dictator"? I thought you could. "With great humility I accept this role that has been thrust upon me by the winds of history. The suffering of my people forced me to make this decision. After the bloody floods of the Sindian War have receded, our country needs a unified voice, a strong leadership, to guide us through these troubled times and to rebuild the glory of Darokin. This will be only a temporary measure, not the start of an Empire. Freedom runs strongly through the veins of our fair country, and thus I know the people would never succumb to unnecessary burdens of domination. Instead of a ruler, I shall be a focus for the voice of the people." These words will be spoken by "General Winter", a NPC the PCs have grown to love and admire. He just "happens" to belong to the Mauntea family. Thus the merchants are able to keep their hold on the country. Well, there is one other reason that the merchants see this transition necessary - they have to make drastic economic transformations to keep the country away from bankcrupcy, and only a "dictator" could pull them off. I am also planning a short civil war after this, as some Magistrates of the old regime rebel against this political unification of the country. Also, Selenica will become an independent free city under the protection of the new Selenican defence league (Rockhome, Alfheim & Karameikos). One question, and if anyone else has ever run this or pondered it, let me know... The Dwarves have a secret alliance with Ethengar (helping them build roads, providing siege weapons, et (from the Gaz on Ethengar)). The Dwarves southern portal to the world is through Ylari. The only other portals to the outside are through hostile territories; Alfheim, Broken Lands, and Northern Reaches. The Dwarves and the Ylari have similar dislikes, mages for one, foreigners another, basicly the same to the Ethengarians (foreign mages). Now with all these type of aliances, would not the Dwarves prefer to side with Ethengar and Ylari with any wars? Offering roads and seige weaponry, and several troops to get a chance to bash at a couple of them elves, and maybe a couple of them Glantrian Mages? The alliance may be out of neccesity, and not by what is right or wrong, I mean if you sided with Darokin on this matter, you run the risk of loosing your only 2 safe portals to the outside world. Every time I ran X10, it has been with the Dwarves enbroiled in the Denwarf Civil War, so the Dwarves never have a chance to side with anyone; but what would the fate be if Dengar was not in a civil war and sided with Ylari, and help the Ethengarians launch an invasion on Glantri? What if Karameikos is enbroiled over the death of Oliver, and can't lend any support because the risk is too great over civil war, or with his cousin? Thyatis would not be able to help, they now have new enemies with Ylari-Dengar alliance; and if Stephan agreed to use Karameikos as a portal, it would surley erupt his nation into a civil war. With the Master moving too close to home for the Orcs, would they stay or take advantage of Glantri's position? Thar would never agree to an attack on Glantri, nor any alliance to side with a power that could be against Glantri. The main focal point would be on what would the orcs do? Taking advantage of two nations at war is riskier than one nation, and they would need a better orc than Thar to do it; meaning an orcish civil war with the winning side invaiding Glantri or coming up the Dwarves backside. Some orcs may even be considered heroes for turning the tide in such a matter! Just thinking... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Apr 2003 13:41:40 -0400 From: Geoff Gander Subject: Re: Vaporware To add to the vaporware list, there would be: The Islandia Campaign (had an ISBN number, don't know how much else was done) Several modules for the Savage Coast area, including one set in Slagovich (there was a title, anyway). Bruce Heard posted a list to the old MMB around 1998-99, in addition to a promotional document that described the Mystaran campaign setting. Now, I could have sworn that several people saved this information (I thought I did, but I can't find the file right now) - Shawn, do you have it on the vaults somewhere? I found the file on the Vaults outlining all the vaporware. You can read the document at dnd.starflung.com/refguide.html. It has the tentative product codes, as well as brief outlines of what would have been discussed. Wouldn't it have been wonderful if these products had been completed... It's a new "event book" from Malhavoc Press, written by Bruce Cordell, called "When the Sky Falls" and it deals with how to integrate a meteor impact in your campaign. Anyone checked it out yet for Post-WotI Glantri campaigns? I'm thinking of getting the PDF this weekend, so if no one else has commented, maybe I'll post a review or something- ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 23 Apr 2003 to 24 Apr 2003 (#2003-109) ****************************************************************
