Thanks Geoff! These kind of idea mindstorms are really useful for me. Now, I just have to sit down and tie it all together. The PCs consist of a all human party with one Rogue(with Noble blood), one female Monk from a nearby monastery, one barbarian (I hate barbarians, but Im going to try and fit him in somehow) and one 17 year old Sorcerer... hmmmm :) Havard --- Geoff Gander skrev: > Havard: > > How about these ideas for campaigning in Darokin: > > - Dealing with intrigue between the houses > controlling Corunglain, > Akorros, and Darokin City. > > - IIRC, GAZ 11 mentioned that Akorros was rife with > crime (ie: the > thieves' guild has a lot of pull there - the PCs > could be charged with the > task (or forced into it) of uncovering a conspiracy, > or something less > dire, but nonetheless something that hold legitimate > merchants under a > pall of fear. > > - The PCs could explore ruins dating from the times > of the Eastwind > dynasty, or perhaps during the period when Darokin > was fragmented (prior > to the Great Merger) - there could have been many > now-forgotten > duchies, baronies and lesser realms occupying what > is now the Streel > Plain. What era are you running in? Pre-WotI? Post WotI? During the WotI? That could certainly affect what you can run them through...You could also always run an Early Darokin campaign. Here's some ideas just post AC... 1st and 2nd Century AC = Fight side by side with the Darokin Kings against the Red Orcs, or support the rise of Corwyn Attleson to the throne. 3rd century AC = Exciting times during the Alasiyani migration across Darokin.Might even be some Ethengar migrations, too (remember those Mughals from the Hollow World?) 4th century AC = Darokin reaches maximum extent, after fighting off all invations and the remaining Red Orcs. Time of Balthac and Sinan (IMC, at least). 5th century AC = Flaems just arrived recently, and start to nibble at northern verge of the kingdom. Vampires are rampant in the cities (successfully fought off by adventurers, many flee to Traladara). Chambahara flee from Sind to Akorros and Akesoli, Lycanthropes from Minrothad into Athenos and Port Tenobar. 6th century AC = The "ElfWar". More importantly, the early period of this century is filled with the invasions of the Great Horde of Big Chief Sitting Drool. Later, Illodius invades Alfheim, followed by the invasion of the Shadow Elves. Darokin is involved in both. Late in this century, the Ethengar invade the Highlands; surely some hordes make it into Darokin, which is still reeling from the earlier Beastmen invasion. 7th century AC = The kingdom begins to disintegrate under the weakness of its kings and the growing strength of the merchants and robber barons. 8th century AC = The kingdom finally falls completely with the death of the last king, Santhral II Attleson, in 723 AC. He is the last of the Attleson line; the Reign of the Darokin Kings comes to an end. Local princes, dukes, marquis and barons openly assume power; many petty wars occur between the various lords. The merchant class becomes a major factor in the great cities of Darokin, Selenica, Corunglain, Ardelphia, and Akorros. Gotta go for now, but those are just a few idea ideas for some earlier days adventures in Darokin... Here is an idea for you. Merchant game, all the pc's belong to one of the Merchant Houses of Darokin, and the head of the house is will name his successor in 1 year, depending on which one of the PCs or NPCs earns the most profit. Each of the characters will start with a certain amount of coin, and must keep track of all their purchases and sales (along with taxes paid to the guild) and at the end the one with the most profit (and maybe the most coin) will be the new head of the house. You will need to have 1 or 2 NPCs at least, maybe more who are competing against the PCs, but of course they will do some dirty tricks to try and win. One of the things you will have to decide ahead of time, is exactly when you want to run the game, and what outside influences with affect the markets. ie AC 1000 a quick profitable trade route is Darokin to Alfhiem - Grain there, and almost anything back, over and over again. But after AC 1007 when the Shadowelves take over Alfhiem that route will most assuredly change. Does your barbarian player know where they will be from? Perhaps, while they could be considered a "barbarian" for class purposes, they might be better described as a "real" rustic? I'm thinking about someone who has nothing to do with civilisation, and literally lives off the land. That interpretation might let you mesh the idea better with your campaign. Just a thought. As for the rogue of noble blood, well, you could easily have this person be the heir of a lost line... ;-) Geoff -- Geoff Gander, BA 97, MPA 02 Carnifex Loremaster/Mad Roleplayer Master of the Elemental Plane of Bureaucracy au998@freenet.carleton.ca : www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Realm/2091 ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 31 May 2003 to 1 Jun 2003 (#2003-143) ***************************************************************
