Was:Curious about Darokin My two greatest campaigns were set on the HW. In the first the Characters were Azcan and travelled through almost all the map and also defeated the adventure HWR2, which is great also. The second started in the Known Wolrd, in Thyatis, but soon the Cahracters were travelling through the lands of the Hollow World. It is my favorite setting of all D&D material! The mix of ancient cultures and the hardcore difficults to sheer survival are the two aspects that fascinates me most, also you have plenty of room to improve on new cultures. And we can not forget the Blackmoorian elves! I advise anyone wanting to Dungeon Master there to read the "Riverworld" series books, because the history is amazing and can be easily integrated with the concept of the Lighthouse in the Hollow World. It may be difficult to find, because it is Sci-Fi from some 20 or 30 years ago... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jun 2003 11:22:23 -0400 From: Geoff Gander Subject: Re: Curious about Darokin you wrote: > The discussion about Darokin (two weeks ago) got me wondering, how > many people (on the MML) use it as their main campaign setting? While my campaign was alive, my players spent over 90% of their time in Darokin. It wasn't a case of choosing it as a destination; that's where they ended up after crossing the mountains, and they wandered around afterwards. The story line of Mulan comes to mind. This story can be applied to any type character that needs to prove they can do something that friends, family, nobility won't normally allow them to try. A farm boy lives out in Threshold, suddenly Orcs kill off most of the nearby farmsteads, leaving the farmboy and a few others behind to fight off the wilderness to get back to town. Once in town, they are now orphans, some can find work in a smithy or tavern, others need to fend off the street urchins or become one. Many hooks, to many to come to mind at the moment. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jun 2003 21:20:32 +0200 From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Havard=20Faanes?= Subject: Re: GenCon? Late reply, but Ray I think that is a good idea. Ill be there for at least 3 days myself, would be fun to have a small meeting for the Mystara fans there? I've never been to GenCon before, not even the US! Why dont you oldtimers suggest something? :) Havard --- Ray Brooks skrev: > Some friends, my wife and I are going to GenCon too. > We went last > year and had a blast. Another Hook... Think of the well written B10 adventure. There are many opportunities here for 0-level adventures. Your players could be some of the family members in the homesteads, or young adults skipping work at home and seeing the movements of bandits that are tailing “real adventurers”. 0-level characters could be spear holders for other mid-level adventurers, or even one of those traps finders, I mean henchmen that walk ahead of the rest of the group. These are great campaign hooks, just think of the possibilities of an adventurer when the spears he carried for Eric the True in his apprenticeship are now antique collectables and Eric is now a King in Norwold, who calls upon the aid of his long ago and trusted spearman… ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jun 2003 14:59:20 -0700 From: David Keyser Subject: Re: Has anyone have adventure ideas? I launched a campaign with Night of Fear in Dungeon Magazine 28 and then Dovedale in Dungeon 46. The first is a murder mystery, the villain is tough for 0 level characters but there are NPCs who can help. Dovedale is a perfect setting for level 0-2 adventures.
