It describes the Flying City of Serraine, inhabited by Sky Gnomes and several other races (Pegataurs, Harpies, Nagpa, Tabi, Gremlins, IIRC). It also has a generic Gnome PC class, in addition to the Sky Gnome. It is quite interesting, especially if you prefer the lighter tone of gazetteers like Glantri or Orcs of Thar. You'd have to do some work to turn it into Spelljamming, but it wouldn't be a bad place to start. You get rules, new races and details of the city. It's an interesting package -- I'm not sure how well it really fits in with Mystara, but it is a fun package, and a lot less silly than Krynn tinker gnomes. As long as the PCs do not necessarily have to come into direct conflict with the antagonists early in the adventure, then you could try something more high-stakes, ala. Dracula. Vampires are particularly useful because they have quite a lot of restrictions if you go deep into the lore (e.g., cannot enter a house without being invited, cannot cross running water, etc...) that normal people can use to defend themselves.Ghosts are another way to go, if you do not make them hostile, but goal oriented. Why is there a haunting? What does the ghost want? How can it be satisfied? If a ghost wants something, it will not attack everyone it meets (and "real hauntings" aren't all Poltergeist stories anyway).Devils are also another way to go, if you use the devil compact route--that is, they will bargain with humans for souls. The PCs can try to break a contract, which largely involves more ingenuity than combat. But this type of adventure is tougher overall because if you make the cont r act tight, the players may feel bad if you have to drop too many hints to get them started. Sequential information gathering may work for Baldur's Gate type games, but live games are different. For all of the above, see if you can have a browse at the Van Richten's Guides that came out for Ravenloft several years ago. If I remember correctly, the one for ghosts also included sample resolutions for ghost hauntings which did not have any combat at all.--- On Wed 06/25, Joe Kelly < joe_kelly@DAVIS.CA > wrote: I am referring to adventures that would be for 0 level characters. _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Jun 2003 19:26:13 -0400 From: "grail_quest@excite.com" Subject: Gazetteers on auction Gazetteer Collection on Auction Gazetteers 1-14Creature Crucibles 1-4Hollow World Gazetteers 1-3Boxed Sets- Dawn of the Emperors- Champions of Mystara- Hollow World Campaign SetTrail Maps- Eastern Countries- Western CountriesModules- DDA1 Arena of Thyatis- CM 7 The Tree of Life- M5 Talons of Night Note:* over 50% of items in virtually new condition* Some maps laminated* A few older Gazetteer covers in poor shape, but books are in at least good shape* Seller is in Burnaby, BC, CanadaPreference will be given to collectors who want the entire set (or everything except the Modules).Viewing of entire set will be arranged only for serious bidders.Contact information: Simon, at "grail_quest@hotmail.com"Please e-mail privately for more information, to arrange a viewing, or to make a bid.Referrals appreciated. _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web! ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 27 Jun 2003 to 28 Jun 2003 (#2003-165) ****************************************************************
