Since Andrew already covered the topic of locations, I'll mostly discuss adaptability to group adventures. For The Gem and the Staff, the plot is simple, but will work for a group without many modifications. The adventure itself is a bit too thief-oriented, though it could work for a group of early expert-level characters. Of course, a group with invisibility, silence 15', levitation and knock spells would find it a bit easy--it seems too short to drain the whole resources of a party. So, it's either recommended for a low-magic group (perhaps thief, mystic and halfling), or, with the addition of a few magical traps and some stronger monsters for any party. BTW, since you > Ghost of Lion Castle > > The module itself places this in Ethengar, which is where I put it. This one, OTOH, is easily adapted to any 1st level party: a magic-user or elf at low levels has little special abilities, so most encounters may be adapted for any class (I used it as a solo adventure for a 1st level mystic, IIRC, and it worked). Interestingly, this adventure has room for solving many encounters without combat. I'd just flesh out the history of the local lycanthropes, perhaps adding a pre-set encounter with them outside the castle, and strengthen a bit the monsters in order to match the number of characters--assuming they are all first level. I'm not familiar with the other solo modules, unfortunately, but considering you're going to use Blade of Vengeance, you could perhaps tie-in Thunderdelve Mountain by using the dwarven hold in the latter module with the one in Blade of Vengeance. This would also keep your players near the Ethengar border for GoLC. Given the location of the Barleycorn Monastery, BoV, and GoLC, you might have your party based in Corunglain--which comes handy for one of the WotI adventures as well. -- Giampaolo Agosta http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Jan 2003 09:34:31 +0100 From: Giampaolo Agosta Subject: Re: Vyalia Elves Kid H wrote: > Somebody can describe me the main charatteristics of the Vyalia elves ( South-East of Karameikos ) please? The Vyalia in Karameikos tend to be reclusive, living in tree-homes near the Lake of Lost Dreams. IIRC their physical description is given in B10, which I don't have with me right now. However, there are a lot of information about them in the Vaults: http://freefind.com/servlet/freefind/search.html?pageid=r&id=574922&mode=ALL&query=Vyalia&lang=en&fr=0 -- Giampaolo Agosta http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Jan 2003 00:42:42 -0800 From: Darth Darknerd Subject: Re: Vyalia Elves There's some very very brief notes about them in Karameikos boxed set and GAZ1, but most of the material is in the Dawn of the Emperors boxed set. Even that doesn't detail very much. I took the liberty to create a Jedi-like mystic representation of the Vyalia. I could send an updated version of that out if you would like? - Joaquin __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. It was a mere coincidence that the Master of Hule was > seen praying for some sort of nasty destruction to smite Darokin > shortly before the Meteor hit. In my own campaign, it was the action of a group of PC's and some skygnomes from Serrain to destroy the large, Mystara-killing object in space by planting an ancient Blackmoor explosive device deep in the heart of the asteroid (which being made of meteoric iron is anti magic in my game, with the radius of effect increasing with the cube of the mass, so only large bits are effectively anti-magical). Okay, so it's a bit cliched... It was unfortunate that part of the asteroid hit the borders between Glantri and the Broken Lands :-) Great adventure, touching on some of the secrets from the history of Mystara, and allowing the PC's (in that campaign at about 20th level OD&D) to visit an exotic location with people they wouldn't dream of allying themselves with (a Heldanic warbird, a Nagpa specialist in anti-magic, some of the more controversial Gnomish phycisits of the age, etc). One of the more enjoyable adventures I've run. Right up there with the PC's flying a skyship desperately into the fire-storm in Aasla to save as many civilians as possible (and, with a shipload of refugees, being shot through the skyshield by the fast rising hot air, finding themselves en route to Matera... But that's another story). Got to hand it to WotI, it's a marvellous campaign accessory. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Jan 2003 11:19:08 -0000 From: Colin Davidson Subject: D20 supplements and the Mystara Mythos Dear All, Has anyone other than me considered adding some of the novel D20 = campaign settings to Mystara? The magic-user or elf who became Sargon's heir and left the castle will later on hire the PCs to re-enter the castle, banish Sargon so the heir can take hold of her/his legacy. IMC the PCs met the heir Eztar when they were 4th level. At that time Eztar was gathering a group for the tas above. The PCs didn't join, but later on at 12th or so level they rose against Eztar who had betrayed his adventurer companions and made some of them his puppets. Two of them escaped and asked the PCs for help in their quest for revenge. I located the castle in Ethengar, the Land of Black Sand. This is a good explanation why the castle has remained secret for so long. The village "Sardsdell" was an ancient trading ground of Ethengarians and Northerners. I am soon starting a new camapign set in Freeport, which several times before has been mentioned as one of the settings that work really well with Mystara. And the more I read about it, the more I am convinced that the stuff must have been written with Mystara in mind! Nyambe is a setting that looks really interesting and would probably easily fit into Davania. The Arica articles by SB Wilson, from dnd.starflung.con might come in useful for fleshing this out. The only reason why I havent bought Nyambe is money. Could you tell me more about it? I am more sceptical about the Bronchosaurus Rex setting. Not so much to the concept, but more that the product looks cheap. But I havent read it so I may be wrong. A tie in with the ancient Carnifex is obligatory IMHO, if you want to include these guys with Mystara or the invisible moon. What else? I really love the Dragonstar Setting which is easily combined with the Mystara universe, although Mystara itself should probably not play a central campaign in such a setting. Dragonstar or D20 modern would also come in handy if you'd want to detail the Blackmoor setting in its more advanced stages. D20 Blackmoor is supposedly coming. Its been really quiet from Zeitgeistgames lately, but Im still waiting for this ideal-to-mix-with Mystara setting. Any other D20 items to be recommended? The reason is that Dave had a little health trouble and has been focused away from the project of late. We are also trying to make this the best book we can. I will be honest with you all, we won't release till we are satisfied. It's just not about the money. We want and need to have a quality project! I hope you can all appreciate that. We are working feverishly on the new Blackmoor. Because of the tremendous amount of support for Blackmoor as well as the surprising amount of high quality creative fan fiction on this list. I will be posting a link to this list tomorrow afternoon to the Zeitgeistgames.com website that will allow you to download a super early preview of some of the material we are working on. It's only for this list. It's only going to be up through the weekend. I am pretty sure it will be a bit that we have on the Peshwah. It's still rough (so be kind!) and has some placeholder artwork(so don't complain about it! /jk), but I want to give you guys an idea about the direction we are going. I might also consider putting up one of the converted characters like The Fetch. The only problem is that I don't have all the artwork scanned in to post for these segments. We are also getting very close to some great announcements, but I can't say more than that just yet. Thanks for your patience. :) Dustin --- Dustin Clingman Zeitgeist Games www.zeitgeistgames.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Jan 2003 08:22:06 -0800 From: Joe Kelly Subject: Re: D20 supplements and the Mystara Mythos Speaking of Freeport, In Raymond Feist's book, The King's Buccaneer the = characters end up going to a pirate city called Freeport! >>> havardfaa@YAHOO.NO 01/16/03 05:56AM >>> I think adding d20 stuff to Mystara is an excellent idea.
