Not so, actually: it is really both. To some, it is a prosperous colony outside the range of the Red Curse. To others, it is a prison -- which is probably also the reason for its prosperity: a lot of workers who don't need to be paid. > The Hives' Land is just north of the renardois colony of Preuve. While it will be a dangerous place to settle, the Hives' Land may serve as a shield from the expansion of the northern Yezchamenid and Zuyevan empires. > By the way, I'm writting an more elaborated version about that idea of > Baronato de Portos, I hope you don't mind if I post it here someday. Looking forward to see both of these :) Bye, GP -- di nuovo come un tempo sopra l'Italia intera urla il vento e soffia la bufera ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 2 Aug 2003 13:25:23 +0300 From: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Harri_M=E4ki?= Subject: Re: village of Tavish You might consider reading Glantrian Political History files from my pages = in http://www.geocities.com/hihama/gph.htm. The parasite creatures will rapidly spread throughout the unprepared Empire. Years of internal fighting against the Hives won’t be enough for the Empire to win, and, finally, in272 BC, the Kanastenid Empire collapses, its administrative structures corroded by the monstrous parasite. In 44 BC, a group of Hattas adventurers, led by the mage Supalinaan, is able to kill the broodmother of Attasar. This event will trigger an awakening of the people in the former Kanastenid Empire. Supalinaan and his group are projected at the head of a vast crusade against the Hive in the entire Empire. As the chief of the liberation squads, Supalinaan and his friends take the opportunity to build a new empire: each city freed of the Hive must swear allegiance to the council (he and his friends) in Attasar. By 10 AC, the entire country is liberated from the Hive’s yoke, Supalinaan leaves the new empire’s throne to his son Attassaper in order to quest for immortality. A new special security force is created in 9 AC in order to keep the hive out of the Empire’s territory, any new infected person must be sent to the closest temple for immediate healing, else, the new hivebroods are sent to the steppes south of Uvaraz. The new empire awakens only to find that it isn’t the center of the world anymore…" Some more recent history: Following the defeat of the broodmother of Attasar, the collective consciousness of the hivemind collapsed. It was only in the last decade of the 10th Century AC that a new broodmother appeared in the wild Hives’ lands. Since then, the hivebrood have grown to include a number of hafling tribes living in the area, and also a number of renardois foolish enough to venture into the dark forests north of Preuve. The current broodmother is following a particularly aggressive approach and is actively infecting as many subjects as possible. Broodlings have even appeared in Ilvar in Uvaraz zatrap, and in the swamps west of Porto Maldicao. The hivebrood: Broodlings are parasitic creatures the size of a very large mosquito. They detect their prey through literally being able to sense the subjects’ thought patterns (like mosquitos detect warm blood). They are only interested in prey that display complex though patterns. Once they detect their prey at a range of up to 100 metres, the broodling aims to land on the subject’s neck where it quickly inserts a proboscis that injects a virus into the subject’s brainstem. The subject begins to develop a fever that grows steadily worse over the course of a week leading to a coma. If the fever is not treated magically within this period, the subject wakes up after several hours, telepathically linked to the broodmother. The broodmother does not directly control an infected subject – as that would severely limit the number of subjects able to be controlled. Instead, the broodmother can send general instructions to infected subjects, who will carry out those instructions through their own autonomous actions. Effectively, the broodmother is the central driving force of a collective hivemind made up of all infected subjects thoughts. If the broodmother was incapacitated, infected subjects would be released from the telepathic control, and would feel as if they had awakened from a dream - only dimly aware of the actions they had performed on the broodmother's instructions. However, the broodlings virus would remain in their system, making them vulnerable to renewed telepathic control. > From: Asgor Ironfist > Reply-To: Mystara RPG Discussion > To: MYSTARA-L@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM > Subject: Re: [MYSTARA] Bandeirantes > Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 14:13:39 -0300 > > Hi > The other description about the Colony of the Horn I found at Orc's Head > Peninsula Sourcebook.
