I decided to include them into the list of otherwise canon planes (except one or two of my own making), each indicated so if not official. AFAIK, there is no more info on any of Mishler's planes except for what he might have at home, although some seem to be taken from Norse mythology, AD&D sources etc... True. Except as I understand it through reading fast (I might have missed a small detail) somewhere , I didn't see any involvement of the other Immortals in achieving that Major Stroke against Hel. To sum up, Khelter was tricked by Hel by getting him thinking that she is some "good" immortal and got him to do many evil tasks for her in the Hollow World. When her job was completed there she gave him the news that he had been serving Entropy all along which drove him crazy and led him on a rampage (along with the PCs) to destroy all the followers of the Cult of Balthac. In other words, the PCs and Khelter delivered this stroke without immortal involvement. The official rules state that a stroke is when one immortal achieves a weakening of faith of another through a chain of event. The only immortal intervention that I read about was when Terra released the real Balthac in the final battle against Calor the dragon. But by then the damage had already been done by Khelter and the PCs. Unless of course that the stroke they are counting as Benekander's doing (by hiring the PCs).? Lancer Dan Eustace wrote:IIRC, the presumed failure/destruction of her Balthac cult constituted a failed Immortal Plot and/or a Stroke against her by some other Immortals. This caused her to lose Power, resulting in Thanatos advancing to ruling hirearch status. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ramses Ramirez" To: Sent: Friday, August 08, 2003 6:05 PM Subject: [MYSTARA] Hel's demotion in WoTI > I am not quite clear why the immortals decided to demote Hel at the end of WoTI and bring Thanatos up a notch to Ruling Hierarch. Did she get demoted solely for being a member of the Brotherhood of the Shadow? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Aug 2003 16:24:22 EDT From: Alex Benson Subject: Re: Hel's demotion in WoTI <> For a Stroke, wouldn't the failure have to become general knowledge for it to have any impact? Otherwise it would just be one of the many dirty little secret incidents within the war, such as the assasination of Torenal. Afterall, Torenal's death was a major factor of the BoS pushing the two Empires into outright war. Technically, that would have been a Stroke in favor of Alphaks, because it not only manipulated them into war where thousands of Rad's allies and Ixion's allies followers perished. However, the assasination was not uncovered for what it really was. In that sense, I would say that the Balthac Cult was publically unmasked as a plot hatched by Hel and defeated by other Immortals and a group of mortals. By losing face, both in the eyes of mortals and Immortals, Hel dropped in stature below that of Thanatos, making him the higher ranking member of the SoE. Personally, I suspect that the rise of Thanatos was something purely scripted by Aaron Allston. Maybe he had something planned...maybe part of T-Bone's massively complicated plan for universal death of everything. Maybe he just wanted to tie things in so he could have the grim reaper sitting with the other heirarchs, bestowing gifts. Remeber that he specifically notes the possibility for odd roleplay to any of the PCs that requested a boon from Thanatos. Of course that meeting was also the hook for PCs to make their bid for Immortality, so Entropy had to be represented in some way. Using Thanatos is the easiest form for representation while strongly hinting that immortality through entropy should not be pursued. Besides, no Entropic based path is given in the Codex. Then again, it could have simpl been the easiest way to get Thanatos a blurb in the campaign without him actually doing anything. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 9 Aug 2003 to 11 Aug 2003 (#2003-196) ***************************************************************
