The only requirement is for one immortal to foil the plans of another. The loss of power in a stroke is *automatic* in that it is not something all the Hierarchs get together in a council and decide-- "Hey you...Hel.. you got outsmarted in your last plot and we ALL found out about it so us the council regrettably inform that we must take away 3 of your levels as punishment.." When an immortal gets outsmarted by another and loses precious worshippers, strokes naturally follow. As a result, strokes are a sort of natural law of the multiverse for the Immortals. My opinion is that it HAS to be that way since Immortals are beings of belief and belief is what gives them strength. If they lose some of that belief they *will* suffer for it. Also, we know that Hel's stroke couldn't have been in favor of Alphaks..For crying out loud, the two of them were partners in crime during the whole ordeal! :) In the Aftermath of the war it states that ALL three members of the Brotherhood of the Shadow (including Hel and Alphaks) all suffered a loss of face- A Major Stroke. The only immortal in the entire adventure I see that did anything directly at all to foiling up her Cult of Balthac was Benekander... It was he who had hired the PCs to investigate it and through his advice its doom was brought. Lancer Alex Benson wrote: For a Stroke, wouldn't the failure have to become general knowledge for it to have any impact? Otherwise it would just be one of the many dirty little secret incidents within the war, such as the assasination of Torenal. Afterall, Torenal's death was a major factor of the BoS pushing the two Empires into outright war. Technically, that would have been a Stroke in favor of Alphaks, because it not only manipulated them into war where thousands of Rad's allies and Ixion's allies followers perished. However, the assasination was not uncovered for what it really was. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! It was pretty good. We had the first part in Karameikos, and then later had another adventure in Northern Reaches (Soderfjord Jarldoms). The group dissolved, and I never cared much about teh web pages, but in going through my older archives (from a Windows '95 pc clone, and a Mac OS 7.5.3 on a Quadra 840av), I decided to rescue the pages in case any one was interested in this material. I have the pages at the following location: http://www.realmspace.com/rpg/goss_main.html Let me know what you guys think, or if this material is actually useful to anyone. - Joaquin PS - The significance of the slumbering serpent in case anyone is interested is named after an Inn, whose owners were by coincendence controlled by a Naga. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
