I like having the > Skywyrm as the ultimate cat. Perhaps they play an > important role in Rakatsa Mythology aswell? The skywyrm is certainly important to rakasta in my own game. Haldemaars ship the 'Princess Ark' became somewhat revered amongst the rakasta, leading so some exchanges of knowledge and ideas between Alphatia and Myoshima, hence there are a few ailuromancers in Alphatia. > Any thoughts on how to adapt the Magic Circles rules > to 3E? I 'd have thought the obvious thing to do would be to think of them as prestige classes. Do any of the prestige mage classes in the assorted canon 3E releases resemble any of the known magic circles? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jan 2003 23:34:33 +1100 From: Jonathan Nolan Subject: Re: Magic Circle of Ailuromancy "Do any of the prestige mage classes in the assorted canon 3E releases resemble any of the known magic circles?" At this point there are many close fits to pretty much all of the Mystaran secret crafts and so on. BTW "canon 3e" doesn't exist. If you mean core rulebooks, then they have little that would fit Mystara without changes. If you mean the OGL world, then yes there are loads of close fits. If we are finally approved and licensed to do a Polyhedron issue on Mystara we will be summarising existing magic in the d20 publishing world that can be used for the "Magic-Users of the Old World" section. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jan 2003 09:49:23 -0800 From: Joe Kelly Subject: The Northlands I need information on the rulers of the Northlands. And one more, what of humanoid characters that > aren't human? Vestland is the most modern of the Northern Reaches. For more info, check out the Net Almanacs. I think there is a general scepticism towards Magic Users in the northern reaches. Especially towards magic used to alter one's perception (illusions etc), as this is seen as dishonesty. Wise Women, Bards etc is an exception. Humanoid characters might be more tolerated here than elsewhere. Any stranger will be met with scepticism, but will be given a chance to prove himself worthy of trust. Prejudice is a civilized phenomenon and does not exist in barbarian societies. (at least according to the Conan stories...) Note that the above are mostly my own opinions/ideas and not neccesarily canon. Also, these elements are strongest in Ostland and least common in Vestland. Håvard ______________________________________________________ Få den nye Yahoo! It can be found at the Vaults of Pandius ( = http://dnd.starflung.com/ostdomai.html ) or as an MS Word file at my own = home page ( http://www.scythe.hjem.wanadoo.dk/Mystara.htm ). I haven't gotten around to Vestland yet. ;) For Vestland your best bet = is the Mystaran Almanacs, but they're not all that detailed. As to magic-users, my take is that they're extremely distrusted in = Ostland and Soderfjord (thought to be servants of Loki), much less so in = Vestland, which even has an academy for mages. Demi-humans in the Northern Reaches are generally accepted, though elves = are distrusted in Ostland and Soderfjord, due to their skill with magic = (same as magic-users). Monstrous humanoids will be slain on sight in = Ostland and probably Vestland as well, but individual jarls in = Soderfjord might have humanoid retainers. All IMO of course.
