Thanks for the link (http://www.scotese.com/late1.htm). I am curious though, could we use this to coorelate how big various areas are in reality. For instance, 8 mile hexes may not be 8 mile hexes and may be a different size. For example, Karameikos is looking closer to be the size of Maine. So, one can imagine the relative size in miles and kilometers, and roughly how long it would get from one end to another. - Joaquin __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! PCs might be hired to extend Thyatian influence by diplomacy or the sword - this could, in fact, be where the perception of Thyatians as being treacherous arose. PCs could negotiate with friendly Doulakki city-states, and build alliances to crush enemy kingdoms. In addition to the Doulakki, there might be Nithian remnants to deal with (no doubt some towns and cities survived, even if the people don't remember their origins), and fragments of ancient Taymora might arise from overgrown ruins, bringing horror to the countryside. Cynidicea: The Doulakki city-state of Cynidicea, no longer under the shadow of Nithia, begins to assert itself in what is now known as Dythestenia. Doulakki refugees from the lands south of the Altan Tepes tell of a warlike people invading from the southern seas (Thyatians). Alliances with the other city-states are uneasy - the common enemy is no more - and tales from Salonikos (Selenica) tell of a fair, but frighteningly powerful, people invading the great plains to the west. PCs could be called upon to spy on the Thyatians, to investigate what the elves are *really* up to, and to conduct raids on rival cities. In the meantime, people have begun disappearing from the city's streets after dark, and the only clue is a strange word heard in the darkness - "Zargon". Milenian Empire: The empire is still vibrant, with many enemies to challenge and defeat. "Nuff said here, I think. I do know that there is a lot of distortion in maps near the polar regions, but I'm not sure if the area of a hex is impacted by this. A 24 mile hex = 498 sq. miles, IIRC. The almanacs have the area of each nation listed, so the easiest thing would be to compare these to RW places. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joaquin Menchaca" To: Sent: Thursday, September 18, 2003 3:42 AM Subject: Re: [MYSTARA] "Mystara" maps > That was awesome. GP, Oh, yes, I agree completely. My only point was that he also has a cult in Davania, and since the Thyatians came from Davania it seems likely that his cult arrived in _Thyatian lands_ in Brun (not Brun in general, which is what I think I might have said by accident) from the initial Thyatian migration. Of course, as time went on, and contact was made with Odin-worshipping newcomers, the priests identified the Davanian Viuden with the Northmen's Odin (a common feature of RW syncretistic paganism). Navarro V" Subject: Odin, Wotan, Nephele, Immortals, Titans and Saimpts (Formerly "Where in the world is Mystara's 'air' Immortal?") Hail Mystarans! I stand corrected with regards to Odin/Wotan/Viuden... Then I suppose, the reason that Odin is not more worshipped as a Patron of Air, is that is he more involved in other matters of the Sphere of Thought (wisdom, rulership, warcraft, strategy) and cannot solely focus on Elemental Air. Together with this, it would be easy for the Alphatians and their philosophies to dominate all things concerned with air. With regards to Nephele, perhaps she was not a full-fledged Immortal, but simply a lesser Immoral being? A titan perhaps (in the D&D game terms)? Or perhaps, she is a saimpt? Which, brings to mind the question: What exactly is a saimpt? (I ask this question both as a DM/game terms and a PC/in-character definitions.) I know the lupin and rakasta civilizations in the Savage Coast worship Saimpts. Some Glantrian cultures (particularly those of Laterran origins: Kaelic, Sylaire, Fen) also refer to Saimpts. IMC, some Saimpts are true Immortals, some are not, simply exhalted beings, or even just famous, legendary ones. I was misled by the "Brun" in your post, indeed. -- Giampaolo Agosta http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Sep 2003 09:06:17 +0200 From: Giampaolo Agosta Subject: Re: Odin, Wotan, Nephele, Immortals, Titans and Saimpts (Formerly "Where in the world is Mystara's 'air' Immortal?") Some Saimpts are indeed Immortals (Saimpt Renard/Korotiku and the other Renardois immortals), others were probably just mortals who led holy lives (some of the Saimpts in geographic names in Renardy, for example, do not match with any of the known immortal Saimpts). They might have become exalted beings, or simply passed to their patron's realm/plane after death. -- Giampaolo Agosta http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 17 Sep 2003 to 18 Sep 2003 (#2003-230) ****************************************************************
