As he also note, my version of the area was a lot less settled then the GAZ version should be, since at that time I was reconstructing the Duchy for my own purposes. I had a map, but since I have no scanner I couldn't send it to the Vaults. I also have a detailed map of Sulescu together with the main buildings and NPCs. I created it for my campaign "Wrath of the Iron Ring", a continuation for the B10 module. If you are interested, I could try to get it scanned some day and send it to the Vaults (and/or to Thibault??). I also had a map of Luln, but I think I scrapped it when the city was sacked IMC. Besides, as was noted there is a canon version of Luln already. I also have extensive maps of Freiburg (without the Vanya goons, a free city ruled by a council of merchants and pirates), a sketchy map of Helskir, and a detailed map of a city on Ochalea. I don't have the words to begin to describe how impressive this is. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I was wondering if you can embed SVG into an Acrobat document? In the Almanac, the JPEGS of the maps are too fuzzy, but it is understandable that this has to be done. Though, I was hoping some day to play around with making vector base maps using Illustrator/Freehand and export them out as SVG files. The result would high quality crisp looking maps at any resolution and the file size would be unbelievably small. Though, I hope Adobe supports embedding their homegrown technologies that they support.... - Joaquin __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I agree, which is why I have been thinking about doing it, as long as they let me :D I've think I talked to Herve and Geoff about it, but I can't remember. Quoting hammer_of_ulric : > Is there any reason why we have this before Book III from 1018 has been > released? I imagine because it's not quite finished yet :P Seriously though I think it's because it's the first time the almanac has had an adventure book and it has taken more to get the adventures done then orriganally expected. Esspecally considering that the Atlas and Events are written by many contributing small sections at a time, while the adventures are created by a couple of people writing something more complex. Because it is less colaborative it takes longer, and then has to be converted/stat'ed to 3e. Thus the Almanac team starts the next atlas before the adventures book is done rather then sit idle. I understand that the adventures book is not far off tho. Of course things move faster with more help :D Chris. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Sep 2003 10:45:14 +1200 From: Chris Furneaux Subject: Re: Acrobat w/ SVG for Mystara Maps? Quoting Joaquin Menchaca : > I was wondering if you can embed SVG into an Acrobat > document? Don't know. But, on the technical side, at the moment the atlas is "printed" from a word file so it would more likely depend on weather you can embed it into word, or alternatively save it as a PDF from your editor and imprt it into the acrobat file then (weather that preserves the vector content or not I don't know). > In the Almanac, the JPEGS of the maps are > too fuzzy, but it is understandable that this has to > be done. It's only that way because they aren't high resolution when they go into word. It's a fair comment and something that should be looked at for next almanac. otherwise the maps are great and more importantly understandable. I'd just like to say that i thought the almanac this year looks fantastic (best yet), and thank you to all the contrubutors, without which the almanac wouldn't exist. Chris. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Sep 2003 15:53:55 -0700 From: David Keyser Subject: the surface Broken Lands population versus underground For those with GAZ10, and playing before the Great Crater, I was curious how much population you have above ground in the various areas of the Broken Lands. Based on the available materials, it would appear that only small communities live in most areas, although the actual broken lands terrain is virtually uninhabited by day. There are the warbands who roam the area, but many of the smaller tribes on the surface would be holed up in caves during the day. There are a few larger permanent fortresses on the map, but out of the way of the caravan trails. So if someone were to fly over during the day, they would find much barren land, the occasional war party, empty camps, the occasional humanoid shepherd with goats in the mountains, and rarely a collection or village of humanoids above ground. At night there would be a lot more activity. It seems like this could lead adventurers to wonder where all the humanoids are coming from, and investigation could bring them to discover the thriving communities that live beneath the surface.
