But what if the Black Flame is another remnant of Blackmoor technology, just as the Artefact beneath Glantri? It could have been brought along by the Truedyl clan, but as they gave up their former way of life, they hid away the Black Flame. The Black Flame was later noticed by an Immortal of the Sphere of Energy, who in the hope of changing the path of the Gentle Folk transformed the Black Flame into what it is now. The Black Flame never succeeded in changing the Gentle Folk, but it was found by halflings who instead began using it - at first to defeat their many invaders, now to defend their lands. Black Flame is tied to the land and lengthy rituals of consecration are necessary to export the Black Flame to new lands, which means that in Alphatia they have succeeded in importing the Black Flame, but likely not elsewhere (but one could always make a campaign about the transfer of Black Flame from one land to another). Myself I play the 3E (and slightly 3.5E), so I'm myself looking for some sort of conversion, so that the Master works as a PrC.
