She descends on your party as you struggle to secure your weapons . . . ....The 3-D Dragon Tiles also comes with a special D&D adventure, "The Revenge of Rusak." And from "the Kidnapping of Arelina" which may or may not be the exact same product: "The 3-D Dragon Tiles also comes with a special D&D/AD&D adventure, The Kidnapping of Princess Arelina. Can't find an eraser? Don't worry. Leave the dungeons to us." Both are downloadable from http://store.yahoo.com/svgames-store but I think I'll pass on those ones for now. My question is, who is this princess Arelina? Is she the unknown daughter of King Stefan Karameikos, the Emperor of Thyatis, or some hitherto unknown Glantrian Princess? If anyone has any of the products in question that *might* shed some lights on the matter, but very likely *not* since these are old products from the days when the Known World was litle more than a map in the blue box, so any ideas for who this gal might be are of interest! :D Håvard ______________________________________________________ Få den nye Yahoo! IIRC, I think a theory was put forth that Princess Arelina was likely of Alphatian origins- given her royal title, and the evil wizard Rusak that was attempting to kidnap her (twice! The Kidnapping of Princess Arelina and The Revenge of Rusak). In a similar vein, I think the proposed setting for the one-on-one module with the thief (can't think of the name offhand, and I'm too lazy to look) was also Alphatia. With the Fazzlewood mentioned likely being somewhere in the central forests (Foresthome, perhaps?) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Oct 2003 16:30:23 +0100 From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Havard=20Faanes?= Subject: Re: Who is Princess Arelina --- Andrew Theisen skrev: > I seem to recall a discussion about this on the list > some time ago- I think it was one where we were > postulating where certain modules should take place. > IIRC, I think a theory was put forth that Princess > Arelina was likely of Alphatian origins- given her > royal title, and the evil wizard Rusak that was > attempting to kidnap her (twice! Reminds me of the old Marvel character Arcade and his insane traditional battles with his wife.... Or was he just too busy kidnapping Arelina all the time? I don't have the adventures in question myself... I used to have the Revenge of Rusak, but I don't seem to be able to find it anywhere any longer. So I really can't say for certain what Rusak's goals were the whole time (I think it was just to kidnap the princess and hold her for ransom- you know, traditional "bad guy" stuff). Transplanting those modules into say, Alphatia, opens up a whole new realm of possibilities. Who are Princess Arelina's parents? What would Rusak have to gain by kidnapping her? Why would a wizard (who is a nobleman by Alphatian standards) kidnap another noble's offspring in the first place? (I don't recall if Arelina was ever described in NPC terms, but even if she wasn't a wizard- and thus non-noble by Alphatian standards- kidnapping another noble's daughter would be a pretty steep offense, I think). Rusak was a pretty powerful wizard, IIRC (I want to say 16th level?) so finding the answers to some (or all) of these questions would go a long way to fleshing out his motives and his current doings. Reminds me of the old Marvel character Arcade and his insane traditional battles with his wife.... Was Arelina in on it all along? This is a very interesting possibility, and now that you bring it up, it seems a very likely one, to me. Maybe it was just some twisted game that the nobility of Alphatia plays- and brings unsuspecting adventurers into the mix as a result. Ah, those eccentric Alphatian wizards... :) Fazzlewood could very well be a minor region withing Foresthome... I'd originally planned to put it in Ghyr, myself, but then someone pointed out that the prologue mentions the thief stole the "Imperial" something or other, and suggested putting it in Alphatia. After seeing that post, I had to concur, and decided that the best (likeliest) place would be somewhere in Foresthome. Maybe in the western reaches... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Oct 2003 11:01:27 -0800 From: David Keyser Subject: Re: Who is Princess Arelina I also recall suggesting that AC3 and AC5 could be set in the Kingdom of Ghyr. Someone was working on fleshing out the old Quest of the Heartstone kingdom into a gazeteer like format. I don't remember if the person who did it adopted that suggestion.
