Like the Scro in Spell Jammer?>> Although Mystaros' ideas on Orcs are interesting and I am looking forward to seeing those parts in the Hackmaster book aswell, we don't have to wait for that to make the Orcs interesting in our campaigns. In 3E standard Orcs are quite deadly for low level adventurers, but as with other peoples, Orcs should be quite likely to gain higher levels. In fact, the violent culture of the Orcs should ensure that experience points flow freely among the orcs. Having your 5th level party facing a bunch of 3rd and 4th level Orcs armed with magic weapons they stole from the dwarves they just butchered should be enough to make your players think again before disregarding Orcs as a threat. On the other hand, though, just because a place name is obviously inspired by something in RW India, it doesn't necessarily *have* to be connected to Sind. To work the Sindhi angle, what might have happened was that at some time, during an early period of Sind's strength (before the problems with doppelgangers et al) some explorers discovered the southern continent, and tried to make a go of establishing a colony. For various reasons, it didn't work, but for some odd reason the name "Meghala" remained. On the other hand, there's the "Kimata" element in the name of the plains, which is clearly African in origin. A fairly obvious link here would be the Simbasta, who do inhabit the plains. I would think, since the Simbasta had likely been in the region before any potential Sindhi explorers decided to see what all the fuss was about in Davania, that the name "Kimata" has been associated with the region for a very long time. Clearly, the Milenians picked up the word. In the case of the Meghales Amosses Desert - Meghales seems to be a Hellenised version of Meghala, and Amosses seems to be Greek in inspiration, too. So, I would say the the Milenians, while they assuredly were not the first people to discover the desert (the Simbasta surely knew of it already), were the ones who gave it a name that was broadly accepted (in their view, and in the view of the Known World - the Simbasta, and other races, obviously have their own names for everything). > It would make some sense. The Milenians are descended from Traldar, the Hinterlanders from Neathar and Antalians, Garganin was founded by people from Hule, and there is even a city named "Telos Taksidhi." Hmmm...I can't think of what Taksidhi might be - aside from a possible Sindhi connection. Telos sounds Greek to me, though. Perhaps Telos Taksidhi may have been a Milenian town or city at one point, which received an influx of Sindhi from the failed colony (which, perhaps, was wiped out by any of the perils stalking the continent). Alternatively, it could have been the Sindhi colony, but it was later annexed by the Milenian Empire (which presupposes that Sind would have been able to colonise other territories during the period in which Milenia was powerful), or it was taken over by refugees fleeing the collapse of the empire - either of which would account for the Milenian element to the town's name. In my old cities of the Adakkian Sound region article, I portrayed the city as being formerly a remote, self-contained outpost of the empire.
