It's my first time in this List, so if I say any nonsenses, be pacient, please =) Well, i just read Belcadiz Gazetteer, and i star to wonder if the Destreza elves just made an time-travel instead of a dimensional-travel. Or it would be a lot of coincidence if this elves appear in the same place that one day an alien culture (the ispan culture) will arrive and envolve into the espa/verdan cultures... and the Destreza's and Espa's cultures are SO similar (in fact, the same culture)... so, it would be more probable if this elves came fron an alternative futute (an apocalipct one), and the Immortals just let they have another chance... pehaps, an belcadizian elf will save the future from this possible fate! This thought made me wonder about the sylaire/renardois connection. I tried to found any possible connections between the were-wolver and the lupins, but i haven't got good answers with this idea... then, i remembered that the lupins mimic the savage baronies culture... well, and if an glantrian adventure fron nouvelle averoigne (probably an duelist, because he didn't had any luck with the magic arts, pehaps?) became an famous heroe in Renardy? well, maybe they would adopt his culture as they own... but is hard to know an whole people's culture just observing one individual... and then they start to mimic the closest culture they found in the region, the savage baronies! Well, what do you think about this ideias? Ah, by the way, sorry if i'm speaking someone's ideia, i just had these ideias, and i don't know much of Mystara yet And sorry about my english, i think that speak in portuguese a LOT easier =) Bye Guilherme de Texeiras _________________________________________________________________ MSN Messenger: converse com os seus amigos online. http://messenger.msn.com.br ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Feb 2003 13:35:53 +0100 From: Giampaolo Agosta Subject: Re: Cultures Asgor Ironfist wrote: > Hi! > It's my first time in this List, so if I say any nonsenses, be pacient, > please =) Welcome! > Well, i just read Belcadiz Gazetteer, and i star to wonder if the Destreza > elves just made an time-travel instead of a dimensional-travel. Or it would Yes, the similarity between Espa (especially Torreoner) and Belcadiz elves is striking. Myself, I would consider the Espa and Belcadiz as coming from the same region (somewhere in or near Thyatis), though your idea of time-travel is certainly a good one. > This thought made me wonder about the sylaire/renardois connection. I tried Same here: I consider the Renardois culture as derived from a migration of Averoignan lupins right after the disappearance of the d'Ambreville family. Note that in later works (Lupins of Mystara, on Dragon Magazine), Bruce Heard placed several lupin clans in or near Glantri (especially Glantri Mountaineer, Cimarron Hairless, and Hounds of Klantyre). > Ah, by the way, sorry if i'm speaking someone's ideia, i just had these > ideias, and i don't know much of Mystara yet No problem. > And sorry about my english, i think that speak in portuguese a LOT > easier =) Many of us are not native english speakers as well, so don't worry ;) Bye, -- Giampaolo Agosta http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Feb 2003 10:32:06 -0300 From: Asgor Ironfist Subject: Re: Cultures Hi again ^^ My first thought about the belcadizians was that they probably migrate with the thyatian/kerendan colonists (vyalian elves that start to live more close to kerendans, and even adopt a version of their culture, pehaps?) What about Hule? Which culture they would be? I think that something between the sindhi and ylari, but i didn't find any source that makes this clear... And what about the city-states? they have an real-world equivalent? By the way, why the Knights of Halav aren't an Honorbound company? Yes, more or less that's what I was thinking, too. > What about Hule? Which culture they would be? I think that something > between > the sindhi and ylari, but i didn't find any source that makes this clear... Hule's culture is based on RW Turkey (the language, at least). There aren't many official sources, but a very good fan write-up is this: http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Cauldron/5014/ > And what about the city-states? they have an real-world equivalent? Yes, of course. They are based on former Yugoslavia and Albania. I don't remember the actual matches, though. > By the > way, why the Knights of Halav aren't an Honorbound company? Probably because they are Defenders rather than Honorbound. Honorbound companies do not have religious overtones, except for a general devotion towards the General (a.k.a. Thor).
