Not only for the tides, but how would Patera affect lycanthropy? Tidal science would greatly be affected, you would just discover that the moon passes by every high tide, then once in a while there is a tide, and no visible moon to blame it on. Of course if you were a smart wizard, and you know the tide is based on the moon, then when there is a high tide, there is a moon, visible or not. Then you would have discovered Pantera. My theory is you would never be able to identify the tides to the moon, without knowledge of an invisible moon pulling on the surfaces waters. Many real world ecologies are affected by our moon's phases, especially sea spawning. Would the presence of a second moon be the reason for so many magical creatures? Also, faerie type creatures being so intuned with nature and the phases of the moon, and invisibility, would they know of Patera? ! Would the pixie's invisibilty be so strong because ancient pixies discovered something was amiss in the heaven's? Another point to ponder upon, how long has Patera been invisible? If it has only been invisble for a few thousand years, then elves would be wondering what ever happened to that second shining disc in the night sky? The same with other ancient creatures, and any Blackmoorian liches hanging about. Would there be any cultures believing that the Blackmoor destruction was the result of Patera falling from the sky? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Apr 2003 08:22:04 -0800 From: Joe Kelly Subject: Re: The Moons of Mystara so what moon is Myoshima on? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Apr 2003 13:13:25 -0500 From: Andy Morrow Subject: The Glantri/ Moorcock connection Hello fellow Mystarans, Apologies if someone has pointed this out before, but its just too delightful not to share. I started reading Michael Moorcock's, "An Alien Heart," yesterday, and was surprised by the character names. So far I've noticed: Brannart MorphailJherek CarnelianLady CharlotinaThere is no Jaggar, but there is a Jagged. On an unrelated note, it looks like the wife and I will be moving to Plymouth, NH this summer. I will of course be looking for a new gaming group. Do any of you know gamers in the area? I took the idea from the Dragonfist game, actually. There, an hp bonus is given for a Fortitude (i.e., Constitution-based) stunt. > I've used the system just for performing various stunts outside of combat and that seems to work well. My games have certainly improved after I came up with it, though fighters and thieves have obviously benefitted the most. Which is why I really need to get that Spell Stunt system done too. I just need a few more hours to a day, and I'll get everything done... ;) The Spell Stunt seems to be the most difficult--even in Dragonfist, there is no formalized spell stunt, you have to use Int-based stunts to get a generic bonus and apply it to a spell. Other than simple modifications to ST and damage, Spell Stunts could, IMO, modify ranges and areas of effect (homing fireball ;) ), but also allow on-the-fly "colour of magic"-style modifications, and perhaps something like cantrips. -- Giampaolo Agosta http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 2 Apr 2003 to 3 Apr 2003 (#2003-93) *************************************************************
