One set of links that didn't work those to some of Christian Constantin's maps that I didn't already have on the Vaults. I had already downloaded all but one of these personally and have in the recent update decided to put those onto the Vautls so the articles there make sense. Some other links that didn't work were those to the old Tome of Mystara which has been taken down. Now this is one of those sites which I have personally downloaded. But should or do people still want to have access to those files? And what about files on websites that people might not have downloaded, are those lost forever? I had also the maps made by Christian Constantin onmy site but for other reason i lost them. I just got them back and i want to upload them son. as for all the other sites, i used to save them in full on my Hard drive for further use or republishing. Maybe saving them on a DVD or CD will allow us to guaranty that we keep accessible these files if needed. One other way would be to take a ost and have them there, but then, the cost will have to be divided;... i am not sure... thib --- shawn stanley wrote: > As part of the recent update of the Vaults of > Pandius I checked that > exterior links all worked, of course many didn't - > and this got mr > thinking. Apparently, geocities decided to deactivate all sites that don't get enough activity (I suppose in the sense of regular updates). > Some other links that didn't work were those to the old Tome of Mystara > which has been taken down. And what about files on websites that people might not > have downloaded, are those lost forever? Well, I think the ToM (and Christian Constantin's work, for that matter) deserves to be saved. On the other hand, it would be excessive to ask you to monitor the web for potentially interesting files... so authors should post their work here, so you can store them safely. > What do people think, what do people who have websites think? As the owner of a website, I always keep a copy of my site on my HD, just in case the provider decides to get rid of me ;) For popular pages, the risk is reduced by google caches and projects such as WebArchive, where you can get old copies of a website: http://web.archive.org/web/*/dnd.starflung.com/* http://web.archive.org/web/20011203131312/www.geocities.com/mystaratome/ and so on. The problem is that often, only the most visited pages are saved (i.e., the main page). It's not the case of the Vaults, but it is, for example, the case of our Thyatis Character Reference website :( -- Giampaolo Agosta http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 May 2004 13:56:22 +0200 From: Giampaolo Agosta Subject: Re: Other Mystara sites Thibault Sarlat wrote: > > as for all the other sites, i used to save them in > full on my Hard drive for further use or republishing. > Maybe saving them on a DVD or CD will allow us to > guaranty that we keep accessible these files if > needed. I do keep copies of the Vaults and some other sites on CD, and it's probably the best solution. The problem is I haven't had time to make a new copy in two years :( -- Giampaolo Agosta http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 May 2004 09:07:20 -0700 From: Andrew Theisen Subject: Re: Other Mystara sites shawn stanley wrote: As part of the recent update of the Vaults of Pandius I checked that exterior links all worked, of course many didn't - and this got mr thinking. Great! Sounds cool- Just one question, though. I had pre-ordered this last year through Diamond (a friend of mine has an online comic shop I order from). I think this costs more- and I'm not sure if this will be available through them again? How should I proceed- should I just remind my friend and have him take care of the changes, or will I need to get a refund and reorder? Just curious. Hi Andrew, The pre-orders placed last time we all cancelled with each distributor. This price is the same as before (technically, it's a penny cheaper and 16 more pages of content). If you didn't get a refund from the retailer you dealt with, I would contact them and have them re-order the book for September. If they are not planning to carry the book ( and why wouldn't they? :P), they can special order it just for you. Thanks for your patience.
