They're nasty little creatures made up of cursed, infected river water. The communal HP pool works very well to create a monster that's extra challenging for companion level PC's (till they work the communal HP trick out, wrestle one of the members of the 'wing' to the ground and hold it in a Barrier spell...) A single sabreclaw would be a neat variant, and after their appearance in the whole Sabre River debacle it doesn't seem unlikely that an immortal might introduce them to Mystara. Thinking of them as a poisoned water monster, they'd be created by an immortal who has a grudge against the water plane or water elementals. Perhaps they were put on Mystara by a mischevous entropic who has such a grudge. I see them infesting the deeper recesses of caves, the cold, wet places where even the shadow elves fear to tread, occasionally coming closer to the surface to hunt. They'd be the kind of thing that kobold parents would tell their children about to give them nightmares. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Jun 2004 12:30:26 +0200 From: Jacob Skytte Subject: Re: Familars: Sabreclaws From: "Havard Faanes" > Actuially funny that you should mention Sabreclaws. Take away the "wing" aspect of Sabreclaws, and you've got "Generic Monster #317." Now that is a bad idea... Now that is a bad idea... With partial ESP ability, a cool look to it, and a specific link in to the corruption of one of the elements/spheres. Not generic, but perhaps less distinctive. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Jun 2004 14:07:06 +0200 From: Jacob Skytte Subject: Re: Familars: Sabreclaws From: "Colin Davidson" > > Take away the "wing" aspect of Sabreclaws, and you've got "Generic Monster > > #317." All right, Generic Monster # 319, then. : ) Jacob Skytte ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 22 Jun 2004 to 23 Jun 2004 (#2004-129) ****************************************************************
