Sorry, I don't use 3e, so I cannot really comment on those topics. Maybe the easiest way to convert the Legacies would be to use the same rules as in either the AD&D or OD&D version, only changing the effects to match those of the equivalent 3e spells/powers. Of course this could break game balance, but then one might say that Legacies were supposed to give an advantage to the characters who had them. -- Giampaolo Agosta http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Jun 2004 12:42:40 -0700 From: Andrew Theisen Subject: Re: Red Curse Giampaolo Agosta wrote: Havard Faanes wrote: > Any idea for how to convert the OD&D version to 3e? > What do you think of the way the AD&D version was > converted in Dragon? I was just looking over this the other day because I liked the original "addiction style" rules better than the 2nd edition rules myself. > From what I could see, you really could convert it right away- there don't seem to be any real problems. I didn't look at every power, but the nature of the Cinnabar contamination (where you gain the powers gradually as you contaminate yourself) seems to be the balancing factor. I imagine if there were some powers that seemed out of balance within the same chart you could raise or lower them to another table, but for the most part it looked like you could just do a direct conversion. The only areas that looked problematic to me were the contamination issues themselves- as far as the "must keep cinnabryl next to your skin in order to contain the poison". It makes a lot of bookkeeping ("let's see, I have 3 brights, so that gives me 3 weeks of contamination free time..."). There might be a better mechanic to take care of that, but I can't think of any offhand. One of the things I really loved about the original rules was that it made the Savage Coast that much more savage- characters were limited to 13 (max) in Int and Wis- and Bruce Heard's rules for spellcasting limits fit exactly with 3rd edition limits- unless people have access to cinnabryl to decontaminate themselves. The end result is that the people on the SC tended to be more dull and less powerful (on the whole), and constantly fighting for the cinnabar ore. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 25 Jun 2004 to 28 Jun 2004 (#2004-132) ****************************************************************
