Welcome to the list. Always good to see some new blood here - just stay clear of Morphail... ;) (My apologies to Morphail for that remark.) Tell us a bit about your specific interests in Mystara. I mean, which game do you play (OD&D, AD&D, 3e)? Which time period do you prefer (the AC 1000 time of the gazetteers, the time after WOTI (Wrath of the Immortals) in the PWAs (Poor Wizard's Almanacs)? Do you actually play in or run (as GM) a Mystara campaign, and if yes, what is happening in it? Most topics here tend to be rather specific to the various nations of the Mystara setting, and some swear by the gazetteer era (AC 1000), while others like the PWAs (AC 1010-1013), and still others the Mystaran Almanacs (most recently AC 1018), so that's why I ask (sorry, if I'm blunt). - The Stalker ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Aug 2004 16:19:30 -0700 From: Keene Hammond Subject: Re: Hello All Ok, well I will keep a lookout for him when I can, anyway. I am an old timer from way back in first edition days but I took 20 year break from the game (career, family stuff) I now have a game here in western New York where I am the DM. The AD&D2E rules are my favorite and they all allowed in my game, plus we have some house rules as well, some on the fly even. In our campaign, we are in Karameikos and it is early summer of 1000. The party has just cleared out the Wolf Skull Goblin lair and is pondering on who "ole' skinny legs" is. I am having so much fun, it can't be legal. -Keene __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I've updated to 3E. I played 0D&D for a few years, then moved over to GURPS. 2E is still very popular but I like the variety of prestige classes and feats offered by 3E. > In our campaign, we are in Karameikos and it is early > summer of 1000. The party has just cleared out the > Wolf Skull Goblin lair and is pondering on who "ole' > skinny legs" is. I haven't played Mystara in many years. About two years ago, I began collecting Red Steel and Savage Coast material. I've collected some others' work and I've done some conversions from 2E to 3E on my own. One of these days, I'm looking to moderate my own 3E Red Steel campaign. Until then, I lurk and search for an online Red Steel game to read (maybe play in). > I am having so much fun, it can't be legal. Welcome to the list! Hope to read some great stuff! I prefer 2e rules (I hate 3e!), though I still admit the AD&D material written for Mystara was mostly awful. The Explorer's guide for the Karameikos set was a nice book, though it didn't exactly have a lot of stuff to say that wasn't in gaz1... And yes, I make a lot of stuff up on the fly too - I rarely make up stats for the bad guys, because I just can't be bothered too. Then again, most of the characters are around levels 12 to 15, so I don't exactly need to pull punches. I still managed to have Bargle capture the entire party last time, though ;) > In our campaign, we are in Karameikos and it is early > summer of 1000. The party has just cleared out the > Wolf Skull Goblin lair and is pondering on who "ole' > skinny legs" is. > Oh, "Night's Dark Terror" - one of the best D&D adventures ever writen, if you ask me. Yes, definitely one to run, if the players don't know it by heart already, which have been a problem for me for a while. Still, I have an awful lot of fond memories about that particular adventure. I've been thinking about running it again sometime (players totally botched it up the last time), but I'll have to start over if I do, since it requires the characters to be rather low level (certainly not 12+), and my campaign in currently in the autumn of AC 1010 (and the Black Eagle is about to have his tail severely kicked). Well, if you like that adventure, you'll find a lot of allies here - I can't remember anyone ever badmouthing "Night's Dark Terror" here. - The Stalker ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Aug 2004 23:21:23 -0300 From: "Vinicius R. de Moraes" Subject: Re: Hello All Oh, feared "Stalker of Alphatia", have you asked those questions - which I liked so much! - to all the newcomers? Funny I really started - even without knowng it - some 21 years ago with Intellivision's "Labyrinths, Dungeons and Dragons". Intellivision was a MATTEL videogame. Isn't MATTEL WotC's owner BTW? We should say "I don't have time to work", "I don't have time to travel" etc. Game should come first. Easier to say than actually do, I myself haven't played since March (my WotI adventure for which I got sooooo much cool help from the incredible guys from this list). :-/ > I've been playing online for about three years at the Nexus. Don't you think that feats make hig-level chars all the same? I mean there are a couple of feat combos that cause only a couple of types of warriors (and I mean SECOND edition "warrior") exist. > >In our campaign, we are in Karameikos and it is early > >summer of 1000. I have watched "Highlander" today and after many years "meeting" Ramirez once again... despite of the fact he is Egyptian, man, he is totally Spanish! With a "Katana", yes, but still Spanish! Not bad, but not very informative... if one is used to Gaz info, FRealms books etc you just can't take books whose level of info is shallow. Besides that the OLD Amber adventure is better than the newer one, right? No CD but cooler. > >I now have a game here in western New York where I am > >the DM. > > > > Cool.
