I am a veteran of message-board role-play (www.nexuscity.net and www.roleplayinggames.net) as both a player and a DM; recently though, owing to the time required by my job, I have been unable to participate at a daily rate. Pbem may be more to my speed at this time and I am interested in getting more details about your game. Which edition (0E, 1E, 2E, 3E, or 3.5E) would you be using? Which races, classes, and background would not be accepted? What happens to the character if his/her player fails to post his/her actions? Thank you. J. M. It is described as a set of Secret Passes as presented in the Savage Coast Campaign Book. It is therefore appropriate for AD&D, and can probably be used as is in an OD&D game (though I don't know how well Secret Passes would interact with Weapon Mastery). Bye, GP Ten Thousand Fists of the Khan ----------------------------- This set of secret passes have been developed by the Ten Thousand Fists of the Khan for use in their secret missions in Glantri. In order to pass themselves off as wizards, these clerics often rely only on the staff and on unarmed attacks. Most passes cannot be performed if the character is using a different weapon. In order to learn these passes, one must belong to the Ten Thousand Fists, and have at least Strength and Dexterity scores of 11, plus the staff and martial arts proficiencies or masteries (if used). Basic Pass 1) Yak's Kick : the character grabs the opponent and throws above his back to the ground. The opponent suffers -4 to his next initiative. 2) Golden Khan's Strike: the character pinches some nerves in the opponent's body. The enemy is slowed down, and suffers -2 to his AC until healed. 3) Disarming Fist: the martial artist hits the enemy's weapon, disarming him. The attack inflicts no damage, but the opponent has a +2 penalty on the next initiative roll. This attack can be performed with or without a staff. 4) Cretia's Tricks: the martial artists enters close combat range, thereby inflicting a -2 penalty to his opponent attack roll with large or medium-size weapons. The martial artist is able to keep contact until he is hit. Difficult Pass 1) Wrist Lock: The martial artist grabs the opponent's weapon arm, allowing him to perform an automatically successful attack with his off hand. 2) Song Han's Lunge: the character perform a lunge with his staff, hitting the solar plexus or another vital point of the opponent, and inflicts double damage. 3) Fist of the Lawgiver: the martial artists performs two simultaneous punches against different opponents. Master Stroke 1) Chibika's Throw: the character performs a throw as in the basic pass, but he twists the arm of the opponent in mid fly, inflicting 1d8 more hit points, plus Strength bonus. 2) Yamuga's Flying Staff: When this staff maneveur is performed, the martial artist spins the weapon and sends one end to connect against the opponent's head, forcing him to take a Constitution check at -6 or fall unconscious. Death Move: 1) Ten Thousand Fists of the Khan: when performing this feared pass, the martial artist attacks his opponent with a flurry of deadly punches. They inflict only normal damage, but, by striking with utmost precision, cause local paralysis to so many areas that the enemy is fully paralyzed for 2d4 hours. These maneveurs can only be performed unarmed: Yak's Kick, Golden Khan's Strike, Cretia's Tricks, Wrist Lock, Fist of the Lawgiver, Chibika's Throw, Ten Thousand Fists of the Khan. These maneveurs can only be performed with a staff: Song Han's Lunge, Yamuga's Flying Staff. The Disarming Fist maneveur can be performed with a staff or as an unarmed maneveur. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Sep 2004 14:04:14 -0700 From: The Stalker Subject: On that old scourge called canon (was: Darokinian language) On Sat, 11 Sep 2004 15:03:39 -0500, Aaron Nowack wrote: > Christopher M Cherrington wrote: >> Hah, I found one, right underneath my own nose. You seem to want to establish Darokin's past and proceed on that basis, regardless of what any source or canon might say to contradict that, whereas I'm more inclined to approach the matter from a perspective of reconciling canon in a way that makes sense. While your approach does not present a major problem as such, it will invariably conflict with canon, since, whether we like it or not, K:KoA is a canon source. If you wish to dismiss it, then that is your choice, but as a consequence we will not be having the same conversation, since I'm first looking at what canon tells me. As I've said before, there will always be things in canon that we don't like and want to 'fix' things in canon material. Ignoring or contradicting canon presents problems to DMs and campaigns that took those sources to heart and made them part of their foundation, however. For example, while I don't like that reference to the WWM removing all magical rejuvenation in WOTI, I will not dismiss it openly, since there might be people out there, who will have based their campaigns on that comment. If I wrote material that contradicts that, then it will be useful to less people (and our Mystara community is exclusive enough as it is...). IMC I won't care about such things at all, but when I write things for the Mystara net community to read (here or in the MA), I have to consider my audience in that context. I certainly wouldn't do it in MA material, for that very reason (I'd rather try to ignore the matter, which is thankfully easy in this case). About the only time when I feel canon really should be challenged is when it conflicts with other canon (as with the lack of clearity concerning when the WWM exactly took place, for example), which actually also falls more under the principle of reconciling canon (with itself). IMC I took Darokinian to be a separate language from Thyatian until K:KoA told me otherwise. I do admit, htough, that I might not have objected wildly for the simple reason that it was also practical to my campaign. I did not find the idea to be impossible or even unreasonable, however. - The Stalker ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Sep 2004 21:03:19 -0400 From: AeonFlux Subject: Mystara Knowledge Hello all. This is the first time I have posted to this list but I hav = ebeen keeping up with the various threads and they are all interesting.=20 The most recent being about the Darokin Language and it being a dialect = of the Thyatian language as is stated in K:KoA. I was thinking that = since this was stated in the Karameikos book it could be that any one = from Darokin that would be meet here would most likely speak the = Thyatian language since they are most likily merchants and traders that = may even speak more than 1 language. It does make sense that Thaytis = having been around as long as it has will have some influences on other = nations even though they may be small in effect. Even King Thar of the = Broken Lands (AC 1000) had rewritten a Thyatian Code of Conduct Manual = to use for his Legion.=20 As for other things I was wondering if there are any maps of the = Milenian Empire or the region they were located on the Outer World. Any = information however small would be appreciated.=20 I am also looking for info on the original Thyatian , Kerendan and = Hattian clans besides what little is in Dawn of the Emperors. If there = are any canon materials out there on this subject. Well that is my post I hope it wasn't to bad.=20 DemnWlf =20 =20 ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 17 Sep 2004 to 18 Sep 2004 (#2004-197) ****************************************************************
