Would the Honorbound fit with the unarmed fighting style of a monk/mystic? I'd not consider them Mystics in OD&D, at least. Anyway, the Fighting Monks of Bellayne certainly fit -- they are mostly Rakasta, but IIRC there are also Elves and Tortles. Also Myoshima (and other oriental Rakasta culture) would have mystics/monks and Thothia (IIRC, there was something in Talons of Night on Thothian Mystics). -- Giampaolo Agosta http://digilander.iol.it/agathokles ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2004 14:00:37 +0100 From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Havard=20Faanes?= Subject: Fwd: Re: What happened to James Mishler? Hi, Out of annoyance about not hearing any news about the Hackwurlde of Mystaros, I sent an email to David Kenzer over at Kenzer Company. His reply is attached below. PS: Jenni, I'm not sure whether you are on the MML at this time si I've attached your adress just in case, since you asked be about this a few weeks ago. The Honorbound of Bellayne, yes. In the Savage Coast document (not sure if it is in the dead tree edition) it lists the Kits eligible each of the the Torasta Talents. Honorbound can spend slots in all six (Backward Kick, Crushing Blow, Flying Kick, Instant Stand, Missile Deflection, and Spring), while the Fighting Monk can only spend slots in four (Backward Kick, Crushing Blow, Instant Stand, and Missile Deflection). Still, the Fighting Monk kit can continue specialization is ALL forms of unarmed combat (wrestling, pummeling and torasta), but the Honorbound can only continue specializing torasta). I think I'll go 99% with what you did (but I'll still have Filwarf speak denwarf language); I have a couple of other ideas I'll speak about later, I'll ask you a couple of questions on that. Where do > the other ethnic groups of Thyatis fit in to Karameikos? Most of the Hattians are in Halag IMC. So there are very few in Karameikos proper. Probally most of the 36,000 puse thyatians in kara in AC1010 would have come from the duchy of Kerendas (AC1000 pop.600,000 and major military center) as oposed to Machetos (AC1000 pop.30,000) although there would have been some from further afield. > (From metagaming, the reason for this is obvious - GAZ1 was written > years > before DotE went into detail on Thyatis, and nobody knew about the > diversity > of Thyatis back when Karameikos was first detailed. Anyone else have any > thoughts > on this? Most of the Thyatians who were drawn to kara by stefan would have been drawn by land or as part of the army or both which would tend to make them more of Thyatian decent of some sort although possibly mixed stock. Mixed 'Thyatians' may contribute more to the mixed karameikians then to pure thyatianian stock given a pre-disposition to intermarry. Slaves of those stocks might try to escape to kara but better a well fed slave with rights (as thyatian slaves have) then a begger with nothing in a foreign country. Additionally slaves would not have been brought into karameikos but would have been sold 1st so that reduces that source for foreign decent. Finally if you have moved away from home to thyatis why would you move to karameikos when you would probally have been just as well off at home. therefore I would say that other races of thyatian decent would not be obvious in the community as they act so much like all the other thyatians that you cannot really tell the groups apart except on an individual basis.
