Finding a rules system that you are comfortable with and that suits Mystara is ofcourse vital to running a successful campaign in our favorite setting. One way to do this _with_ 3e, is to, as I have done (for now at least) decide that the rules from the Core Books is all that will be used in terms of rules. For PrCs, you can either use the ones in the DMG only or leave that whole concept out all together. The Core Books have more than enough rules as it is. Ofcourse, you seem to be determined not to use 3e so writing the above might not be that useful, but perhaps others may find some use for them. > Except that's exactly what they changed in 4th > edition. The > most different thing in > the new GURPS actually seems to be art... There are quite a few changes between GURPS3 and GURPS4, but the old books are still more or less compatible with the new stuff. The changes are more subtle, like with costs for things in character generation, how to figure out Hit Points etc. Furthermore the Fatigue system has been revised, as has the magic system. I would actually have preferred to see more changes with GURPS making it more rules light and giving more room for story telling rather than being simultationist to such a degree, but I suspect the majority of GURPS fans like it that way. I disagree that 3.5 can be called a new edition of the game. The changes are really minor, although the revised core classes make the game feel a bit different (to the better imo). With some of the other rules changes I am not even sure I prefer 3.5 to 3.0, but I'm using 3.5 for now. I hope you find the system that works best for your Mystara campaign! :) Håvard ===== *** Håvard R. Well, possibly. It is probably all connected in some way. I still think Mystara has more powerful magic than most other places in the galaxy. What things are like in other galaxies, that is another question though... Håvard ===== *** Håvard R. I think most of the WotC stuff for 3e is of superb quality and alot of it is very useful for Mystara. some of the other d20 companies make good stuff too, but alot of them, especially in the early stages just seemed to pour out stuff without any thought for game balance etc. The less serious companies seem to have disappeared now though. Mongoose Games is an interesting case. that company has some really good products and some that well...can be ignored. > I think GURPS is really cool, but unfortunately it > is > a closed system. All the rules you'll ever need is in the main books. Most of the supplements are pretty rules light, but are excellent game resources. I have used many of them to expand upon my Mystara campaign (Greece, Rome, Aztecs, Swashbucklers, Medieval, Low-tech, Fantasy I(!), Arabian Nights, Celts, etc Cheers! Håvard ===== *** Håvard R. Interesting thoughts, Magic and Technology definately seem to be important themes on Mystara. The search for a way to combine the two without creating another Great Rain of Fire could be another....
