Hello, I had a passing thought that I decided to share with all of you. I am sure it will influence my future efforts. I've recently started thinking about the important thematic elements that can be found in the various products that TSR produced for Mystara. It seems to me that the most important recurring theme that can be found in Mystara is that things are never quite as they seem. Aarron Allston firmly established this in the very first Gazetteer when he made it separate and distinct what the player characters know about Karameikos and what the Immortals know about Karameikos. I believe this differs from previous game products that described a fantasy campaign setting. This precedent that Allston established was carried over in the many products that followed. Thus we have the forgotten Nithian Empire beneath the sands of Ylarruam. Another land where an Immortal tampers with ancient technology in the guise of a Prince-Magician. I find it interesting that the Known World eventually became Mystara. In retrospect, it is a very apt name. Because those who know the world know that it is filled with mysteries and secrets.
