I believe one of the PWAs even have rules for 'shadowfall' on the HW beneath the floating continent. Still not the same as actual night, though. I'd suggest you consider it a lot before making the final decision, though - the constant day (or eternal sun) is a very notable feature of HW, which even Alphatia's shadowfall only reduces marginally. Taking it away seems to remove something that makes the setting unique, somehow. Well, that's my take at least. > My question for you is: > > HW has a very different feel from other D&D settings. Assuming player characters could be from any race/culture in HW, how > did you DMs go about partying them up? > I should probably not answer that, since I've never used the HW with all native characters - all the PCs IMC were outworlders brought down there (during WOTI). It was pretty fun later on, though, when the survivors returned to the outer world and joined up with new adventurers who didn't have a clue about it, because the survivors could say anything about it due to a spell preventing them from revealing anything... Still, it's probably best if the PCs all begin with a similar background that ties them together. If they're HW natives, you'd need a reasonable excuse for why they can break their cultural bias (enforced by the SoP). I think I might establish a mysterious traveller, who is actually an out- worlder exploring the HW. It might also be someone with a connection to the Lighthouse. Over time, characters will die and should be allowed to be succeeded with new characters from other cultures. That would make for an unusual group, which is always fun. - The Stalker ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 26 Nov 2004 to 27 Nov 2004 (#2004-255) ****************************************************************
