I know the land of eternal sun is a theme of HW, but it's one I'm willing to drop in favour of a more familiar setting. There are certain universal constants I try to keep in a campaign setting, certain things I don't want my players worrying about. Things like there being a day/night. (Though if the campaign was Known World characters in HW, I wouldn't mind.) The Alphatian shadowfall could work quite nicely. I'll have a look into it, although I don't have any of the WotI materials. I've also decided to have all the characters from the same race/culture. Just deciding on which now. Any suggestions? They're all so unique, it'll have a lasting thematic effect on the campaign. It has charts and maps for the movement and other information for the various floating islands/continents, but then I guess you're not going to stick to close to it anyway. For example, it says that Alphatia orbits eastward (spinward) along the equator at an altitude of a mere 17 miles, which naturally reduces the Shadowfall a lot. Since you want something much closer to real day and night, I suppose you'll want to raise Alphatia to a much higher altitude. I'm not sure if the material has been covered again in the MAs, but since you're going to make modifications to canon anyway, you probably don't need it anyway. Very little material makes actual use of the Shadowfall, so this should not affect the published material (official or fanbased), if you decide to use any ot it in your campaign. Placing material after WOTI also reduces the restrictions on spells in the HW (if you care about canon in that case), but then since you're using 3e, making such a list will be relevant in any case. Personally I could never be bothered to and simply wrote down which spells I decided would work or not as it became relevant. - The Stalker ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 27 Nov 2004 to 29 Nov 2004 (#2004-256) ****************************************************************
