Not a bad idea, here's me Jon Cole born 30/11/73 in Hastings UK (of William the Conqueror fame) now living in Birmingham first started playing with a session of Tunnels and Trolls in about 83/84, followed by wandering through Castle Mistamere shortly after. That game never ended, but we then did the Lost City, and then the first 2 Dragonlance modules (we didn't finish either of those campaigns either.) After that it was back to Mystara - although this was still before the Gaz series had reached our sunny shores (can't remember when that was) This game did end, I seem to remember us all getting horribly executed by the Emperor after trecking from Specularuam to the NW of the Atruaghin Plateau - the reasons why now elude me. The main thing I remember about the whole thing was that our DM for all of this was probably the best I've met - way before TSR started publishing propper settings/backgrounds he had created a campaign with such detail and composition that it was almost a shame that TSR did start on the Gaz series (3000 years of Thyatian imperialism, all the Known World as provinces of one empire and so on.) After all that there were lots of other games, and I tend to have GM'd more that I've played - Other systems we've had a poke around include Dragon Warriors (an excellent little game) Vampire, an older edition of Ars Magica, Timelord (A Dr Who game), A system I wrote myself to extract the michael out of a LRP system, Star Wars (several different versions) and undoubtedly some others along the way. I went to Birmingham Uni in 1990 and about the same time started Live Roleplaying which has engrossed much of my life since - for quite a while tabletop took a back seat. I've done lots of that, and was heavily engrossed in our local system (which is either dying or raising from the ashes atm) My favourite of these atm deserves a plug and can be found at www.granddesign.org.uk (theres even a pic of me on the makeup page entry under Whisperer though it is fairly aweful) At Uni I also started playing a PBM game called Primus Inter Pares about political life in Rome which ran from about 1991 to september this year. (Makeing me quite interested in Rome, Carthage, Leptis Magna and the clasical era) During the week I potter about in a laboratory working for a company that makes Chalk, at the weekends I spend too much time running a Mystara gane one day while playing another the alternate day. I've just finished running the entire Dragonlance Saga on Wednesdays (which "only" took 2 years) and I'm thinking of starting another Wednesday evening game - maybe with the Lost City (as I like it and the other party are never likely to get there) or the Huge Dungeon (or whatever its called) adventure that people keep trying to get me to buy, or possibly a Spelljammer Version of Babylon 5 with all the races recast (Beholders for Vorlons, Illithids for Vree, Neogi for Shadows etc) and the players not being let in on the joke.) My favourite Mystara suplement is Gaz 13 - the only one that really supprised me with its content, my least favourite is Gaz 14 as I dislike almost everything in it. I'm currently being a 3rd Level Warforged Bow-Ranger / Fighter (called Shot) doing one of the first Eberron adventures, and my thought for the day is trying to fit Gorilick (sp?) from Monsterous Mythology (2nd ed) into the Nithian / Gnoll background in a sensible way (according to MM he was the original Gnoll god before Yeenoghu) I now have to run off to restat some encounters from OD&D to 3.5 but will probably watch Return of the King again instead Jon ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steven Carter" To: Sent: Friday, December 17, 2004 1:59 PM Subject: Re: [MYSTARA] Anyone? > Actually, the idea of introducing ourselves is pretty good. I am Jason O'Brien, born 27/10/1970 in Dublin, Ireland. I now live in county Cork. I am currently an assistant database administrator in the Irish Naval Service. I have been playing rpg,s since '85 I was introduced to the whole scene through Fighting Fantasy books. The first game I bought was the D&D red box basic set, I strong armed my brother into playing and we have both been avid fans since. We love Mystara. I played in two AD&D campaigns Briefly, One set in the forgotten realms, the other was a homebrew campaign that briefly travelled to Greyhawk. I have also played Marvel super Heroes, MERP, Rolemaster, Warhammer fantasy roleplay and wargames, WEG star Wars, and Twilight 2000. Unlike a large number on this list I don't have a web site and haven't contributed much to the list. I mainly lurk and sponge up every body else's work. I sign myself as Mortus who was a favourite Necromancer npc from glantri. When I'm not working(which lately seems to be all the time) I am at home with my wife of four years and my five year old Autistic son, so when I do get a bit of spare time I cram in a game.
