The PCs are not halflings, but have been given permission to observers by King Stefan, since one of the PCs is a diplomat from the DDC. Two other PCs are knights of Karameikos and have been ordered to protect the diplomat. They may not, however, get involved in the war. Still, PCs will be PCs, and naturally they will aid the halflings in what ways the can without overstepping their orders. I intend to play the whole plot fairly close to the canon version, which means that Bargle will betray and rob von Hendriks and then flee. I had an idea that I could have the PCs make an agreement with Bargle to do this, so that the Black Eagle would be defenseless without his court wizard's magic, but there are two problems with that. One is that it makes Bargle seem much more benign than he should be, and the second is that the PCs hate him with a passion after he has manipulated them repeatedly and even captured them all and stolen their magical items once. Besides, Bargle is too powerful to bow to an agreemenet with them. But I thought I might have them have the option of making an agreement with Sverdlov instead. When Bargle captured the PCs (all level 12+), I played a reverse version of the "Eye of Traldar" adventure, where the PCs begin chained up with the prisoners in the dungeons of the keep. They then completed the adventure and escaped with the Eye of Traldar, which probably doesn't make Sverdlov look too good in von Hendriks' or Bargle's eyes, given that it was his responsibility. Therefore Sverdlov might be prepared to leave the service of the Black Eagle (not to mention the invading halflings). The trouble is that I have no idea what sort of stats Sverdlov has. He is mentioned in the "Eye of Traldar" adventure, but he never makes an appearance, and so he is never described, and I'm fairly certain he isn't mentioned in any of the PWAs either. So, does anyone know if there are any canon stats on Sverdlov? Or failing that, how powerful would Sverdlov be? I should mention that IMC we play AD&D 2e rules, and Bargle is a 26th level mage (converted from the PWA1 OD&D stats - I don't believe the canon AD&D stats, which makes Bargle far too inexperienced IMHO). I don't think Sverdlov would be anywhere nearly as powerful as Bargle (or else Bargle would long since have had him killed, as his power would be too much of a threat to him), but anything up to level 20 or so seems plausible. Does anyone remember if there were any stats for Sverdlov in the MAs? - The Stalker ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 May 2005 11:32:40 -0700 From: Dave Keyser Subject: Re: Mystara Product list ( was: Blackmoor Products for Mystara Product list ) It looks like it is time to update my Mystara index, although you guys have already done all the research.
