Sometime around 1999 or so, there was a thread discussing the concept of "Primal Mystara" - basically using Mystara's ancient history (i.e., before recorded time, before the Carnifex, etc.), using the maps on the paleoworld website (there's a link in one of Shane Henry's articles in the Vaults), to create campaign worlds with very different atmospheres. The theory was that using Earth's geographical and biological history could create almost endless possibilities for time-travelling adventures, or interesting one-off campaigns and the like - whatever the DM and players wanted to do. I must apologise if the description is clouded - I'm recalling what I remember of the discussion. One idea tossed around was creating an ancient Mystaran campaign world based on amphibian life to predate the Carnifex-dominated reptillian Mystara (just as amphibians predated reptiles on our own world). At one point, I wrote a capsule description of one (or several - can't quite remember) cities/nations of that ancient time period. I've been thinking about that discussion lately, and I've been toying with the idea of an article or two on artefacts and bizarre magic items that may have survived to the present day, for use in a campaign. Now, if I'd been thinking ahead, I'd have cut and pasted that thread along with a bunch of others I had collected. But no..... So...does anyone remember that thread? *crossing fingers* Does anyone have a copy saved anywhere? Are you still here, Shane? Just thought I'd ask.
