A good motivation for a Thief character (or anyone with similar inclinations, such as a Wooddrake) could be to look for an item stolen by the goblins. Warriors can be veterans or militiamen. A sample party could then include: - Older veteran (Fighter 5, L, +1 Rapier & Main-Gauche), leads the local militia in times of need. - Rogue from the city (Thief 6, N, a few potions), sent to recover an item, discovers that it was stolen by the goblins. - Country priest (Cleric 5 of Asterius, N, a couple scrolls and potions) with a drinking problem, wants to clean his record with an heroic action. Has the second sight. - The brownie. For now, I've come up with a description of Conall, the brownie: Conall, Male Brownie 4th level, Lawful, 30 HP. Str 10, Int 13, Wis 9, Dex 15, Con 11, Cha 12. Weapon Mastery: Hand Axe (skilled), Sling, Dagger (basic). Skills: Craftsman (cheesemaking), Profession (cooking), Forest Survival, Musical Instruments (pipes), Labor (farming). Equipment: Leather armor, small shield, sling, dagger, common pipes. Magic items: Pipes of Panic, hand axe +1, potion of healing. Conall has lived in his current incarnation for a relatively short time -- a mere century. He has been attached to two households, both in Darokin, near the Alfhiemian border. After the destruction of his first ward at the hands of raiding humanoids, he has wandered for years, growing stronger and more experienced in the ways of the mortal world. However, twenty years ago he settled once more, in a nice farmhouse right out of Pendleton. In the course of his last adventure, Conall recovered an odd item, the Pipes of Panic. He knows the item would be of greater use in the hands of a Faun, but since he has attached himself to a mortal household he has found himself too busy to go looking for the satyrs. When the goblin raids begin, one of the first people to be abducted is the young son of the family protected by Conall. Now the Brownie is decided to act before his ward suffers the same fate of his first one. Conall is almost a typical Brownie -- he enjoys making himself useful and being praised for his work, and likes the country life. His adventuring days do not show much, but he can be dangerous if provoked. In combat, Conall adopts hit-and-run tactics, using _invisibility to mortals_ to escape pursuit. Notes: Conall is supposed to be equivalent to a standard 4th level character, but _invisibility to mortals_ can be too powerful, depending on what opponents the characters have to face in the adventure. However, the fact that he can't get good armor (there shouldn't be time to have brownie-sized metal armor build) helps in balancing the character. Hope it helps, GP ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Feb 2005 18:29:02 -0500 From: Dan Eustace Subject: Re: Let's Help Geoff Come Up with some PreGens... Geoff, I will send the PC's from my Next Gen NW campaign. A few minor changes would need to be made, but the histories and personalities are well developed. They are level 8, IIRC, but I can post them at levels 4-6. There are 4 of them: 2 fighters, MU, cleric of Odin. Stay tuned. I was going to send you the URL for my Yahoo group, but they seem to have changed the groups so that only members can access the files section. (I not only still have the stuff, I'm running a game using a slightly simplified version of it.) Note that most of it is crunch, not fluff; it's how the rules change, not why so and so hates such and such. Also, not all of it is motivated by trying to follow the Mystara canon so much as by what I think is cool in general. If I move it to a Web site instead of a Yahoo group, which I've been thinking about doing anyway, I'll put a pointer on this list. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 4 Feb 2005 to 5 Feb 2005 (#2005-31) *************************************************************
