Anyhow tentatively I'd put them as a race from the Old Alphatia plain (rather than the planet itself) who got caught up in the Air/Flame war as mercenaries for both sides. One bunch migrated over with the Alphatians, another with the Flaems. Generally they want to find a way back home - where they may or may not have more formidable powers of illusion.
